If you were worried about the longevity of your career and someone offered you double the money your current employer was, would you take it and run?

I doubt there's much the club could have done in this instance without being held to ransom by a kid with 0 games to his name.

The Lonie/Sinclair comparison is not relevant as they both have exposed form that shows they are worth 2nd round status - unfortunately same can't be said for Freeman despite his top 10 choice - a few games where he showed something would change everything - unfortunately that doesn't exist so its all a bit of a lottery really.

So Freeman and Pick 8 for Treloar. Two first rounders effectively. Given we had to finish outside the 8 two years in row to obtain those two first rounders its not a win. Treloar is more of a necessity than a luxury coming to us now.

No, Pick 7 and a player who was taken at Pick 10 but has thus far been unable to get his body right to play AFL - yet alone have an impact.

Treloar is well worth that IMO. Well worth it.

Except Scharenburg has a year of VFL on him and had at least got a few afl games in. He has shown that he is at least able to play at that level, even if he never reaches his potential.

Freeman still has potential but after 2 years of barely playing even VFL level, he's a long way behind.
I am not particularly fussed about him leaving, particularly if the Saints are offering twice what we think he's worth. Getting a first round pick back would be a steal if we do get that.

Scharenberg played half a year of VFL and didn't set the world on fire. He especially didn't set the world on fire in his lack luster 4 senior appearances. Not enough to warrant 400k, Freeman probably feels if thats the benchmark he is worth 100k less.

Your 3rd round pick will be around 41 then. Don't see that trade working either. 23-25 is about right. There is risk with him but he is supposedly good to go now for a full pre season. You can either get an injury riddled list clogger or an absolute bargain. Time will tell which is on the money.

Not really, pay disputes have existed ever since the VFL was established in 1897.

Players leaving due to money only happening now is false.

You know Syd Coventry? He captained our greatest side which won 4 flags in a row. He nearly left because he wanted more money. Fred Fanning left Melbourne because he was paid more playing for another club. Saying that money issues did not exist back in the pre-1980s is a big myth.

dont you feel bad luring poor innocent young men to a club that will never win a premiership? .... i felt so sorry for lenny hayes... they should have told him to leave when he was young...
