Well his next contract should be cheap. If we had to end up having one of our recent top 10 picks be a bust or even just a disappointment, better it be Freeman than Scharenberg, de Goey or Moore.

De Goey is the expendable one there.. we need Freeman's line breaking pace, in fact we need 3 of him

it may be.. but if their level of training isnt to the level of afl standard how is it that they are getting games.. are we settling at someone say in our bottom 6 of the 22 that have just done enough to earn a spot? if thats the case fair enough.. but how are they going to compete against the likes of players at other clubs who are training hammer and tongs?
I think (without having the quote in front of me) that Bucks would have been talking about "AFL standard" in the sense of a standard in adhering to the program that was set out for each individual player. You either take a professional approach and hit your KPIs, or you fall by the wayside and likely suffer an injury or lack the requisite fitness.

I don't think he was referring to a blanket standard training program that has been deemed "AFL standard" by convention or otherwise.

K.. spot on.

Give him a medical. If he's still injured by Christmas delist.
And go in to the season with 1 less player on the list? Genius!

If we're going to pay him for the year we may as well keep him around. The kid deserves the clubs support, if nothing else.

Will never happen, top 10 pick and has 10 years in front of him.
Many young players have been in his position and come good
Can you name any off the top of your head? Im interested because Id love it to work out for him (and us) but spending 2 years out with what is essentially one hamstring injury is seriously concerning, particularly for a guy who is said to rely on his pace

Jon Patton has just come back after 2 knee reco's, Paul liquria was the same as a young player, that's two off the top of my head.
You don't give up on top 10 draft picks after 2 years, if it's goes on again next year with hammy issues maybe.
But freeman is a 20 year old who will be given every opportunity to succeed

Fair enough. Not saying give up on him at all, but at the same time I wonder how many players who didn't play a senior game in their first two years on the list have gone on to play 100. Not saying hes gone but the odds are probably against him

Like Danny Roach. Billy Morrison. Sometimes you just need to cut ties. Even Daniel Farmer and Kirk Ugle. 2 years at most.

Ridiculous to cut ties with him already. I dare say the club would be a laughing stock if we did.

In reality it will cost us relatively little to keep him on our list and the potential upside makes that well worth the risk.

Were All these guys 20 yo Top 10 picks - NO
So why waste our time with such useless examples. People here have a much higher standard of discrimination than to accept your poorly researched contributions - Go and find some examples of Top 10 picks dropped due to injury after only 2 years and then you may have a historical basis for your nonetheless absurd position.

What's the point in delisting Freeman? Neat kick, blistering pace, loves the contest, endurance beast. If he can learn to play predominantly on the wing with stints on the inside, he is literally everything we are screaming out for.

It's not like his contract would put us in trouble with our salary cap and with what's happened with Keeffe and Thomas, we have more than enough room on the list for him. In hindsight, you would've drafted Cripps or McCarthy instead of Freeman, sure. But at the moment, it's low investment, high potential stuff. Keep him on the list, hope he comes good.

We won't delist him, no chance at all. With the shallow draft coming up, if we delisted him you'd likely be bringing someone in who might not even get drafted in other years.

The only way he'd leave is if he decided to go to a new club.

If Nathan can get his shit together we have completely destroyed that draft.
-sharenberg (looks really good)
-freeman (?)
- langdon (home run, steal of the draft)
- Marsh (amazing value for the very last pick, looked promising)

On the basis of how the other 3 have turned out I believe our recruiters new what they were doing that year and Freeman can become a gun mid for us when he gets his body fixed

Still need Scharenberg to stay and Freeman's hamstring to completely heal to have a good outcome from the draft considering we had 2 top 10 picks.

Lets hope for Freeman's sake he can get his hammies right, I must say its not looking good.

Freeman done for the year it seems;

collingwoodfc: On Nathan Freeman’s hamstrings: “We’re confident we’ll resolve the issue…. He hasn’t been able to get any continuity in his footy at all."

collingwoodfc: “The medicos were scratching their heads about the latest setback… Nathan, the medical + conditioning staff are frustrated + disappointed."

collingwoodfc: “We’re examining all options to get him back to full fitness ASAP. He’s unlikely to be playing this year,” - @ncb_cfc on Freeman.

Staggering, and sad.
