Naughty Bear is the title of an upcoming video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Players will control the eponymous bear as they use various weapons to earn "Naughty Points", with extra points being given for "deviant and maniacal" tactics. The game is set on a paradisical island where teddy bears live in harmony. The main character, Naughty Bear, is a shabby teddy bear who has a tendency be mischievous, which earns him the dislike of the other bears. Like the other teddy bears, he does not speak but instead conveys his emotions through a variety of sounds and facial expressions.

There's a ton of ways for your Naughty Bear to ruin the lives of the various stuffed bears around him. Some can be pretty gruesome. I saw a bear encounter where my character got in a fight with an angry bear. He grabbed a wooden sword from the ground and proceeded to stab the other bear in his stomach, ending by impaling the bear and twisting the sword for good measure. There's no real blood in the game so the ESRB shouldn't get to worked up about the cartoon violence. Instead you get innocent fluff spewing out of wounds.
There are other ways besides outright violence against other bears to stir up trouble within the world of Naughty Bear. You could ruin parties organized by the bear community, steal things from other bears' houses or set things on fire. Just don't get caught by the bear law enforcement. One scenario I saw featured the titular character stealing something from another bear's house. Since the owner of the house was in close proximity, he naturally called the cops after seeing my character compete his thievery. Now, if players are smart enough they'll realize that they can disable the phone in the other bear's house so he won't have the ability to call the authorities. It's this kind of sandbox gameplay and the different outcomes that will hopefully be possible throughout Naughty Bear that has me surprisingly excited for this summer 2010 release.
