Anyone go?

If you didn't, you missed out.

He was ****ing amazing.

I didn't go last night but caught his whole set at the Big Day Out on Monday - outstanding.

If you'd like to check out a great review of his Sydney Big Day Out performance I suggest you read this.

And this photo I took on Monday is getting blown up to 20x24" and framed to put up on my wall. (More photos can be seen here).

Yeah I caught him at BDO as well, blew the proverbial roof off. Seemed a shame that at least half the audience were teeny bopper idiots that had no idea who he was but thats the BDO I guess.

Simply amazing! Saw him at both the BDO concert and at the Bowl last night. Both nights = perfection!! Would say he was even better last night tho, even though I didn't think that could be possible after Monday's gig!!

At both gigs, absolutely tore the place apart with songs like Cortez the Killer, Rockin' in the free world etc, then had practically the whole place in silence (except for the singing along!) with haunting and absolutely beautiful renditions of songs such as Needle and the Damage Done, Harvest.

Anyone who's weighing up whether to go to any of the remaining shows.. GO!!!

I heard he was too mainstream for anyone on BF to dare to like?

Good mix though.

Agree, man. With such a huge and high quality back catalogue, there's always going to be a few (personal) Neil faves that get missed but under the circumstances, that's a couple of pretty smoking sets.

Both are hella crowd-pleasers. Awesome. I'm jealous.

Good set list Blackshadow. There are some beauties in there, but I said this on the muse forum, am I the only one that rates Comes A Time? Looks as though not even Neil rates it.:)

I ALWAYS remember the first time I heard Old Man.

The guy is a genius.

Is the last song on the setlist ('A Day in the Life') the song from Sgt Peppers or is it a different song?

Was it his encore song?

That's the one Mr R it was the encore - Old Shakey breathes a heap of fire into it and makes it his own he finishes it off with a wall of feedback and rips off his guitar strings.

You take photos? Why haven't you told us before?

Can someone tell me the crowd response to Neil Young at the BDO? There were Nazi and Stalinist rallys that assembled a more agreeable crowd than the arseholes that get along to that thing, so I would be interested to know how they reacted to an old bloke playing old bloke songs.

I heard some kids with southern cross tattoos, in a confused state, chased another white kid with a tan and kicked and punched him to death.

Super. Was he wearing the flag as a cape?

Fair enough but the old bloke singing old songs is still selling out crowds. As was just proven. And to be honest, I'm not even really a Neil Young fan.

I love Neil Young. He is a ****ing genius. Better than Dylan.

I was trying to get into the head of your standard BDO attendee.

woah there, the amazing concert is still ringing in my head, but let's not go crazy.

And i heard the BDO thing was a little weird. I spoke to a girl at my work on Wednesday who said she had been to the big day out and I said "How was Neil Young?". She screwed her face up and said "I don't know what the fuss is with that guy, I watched the first song and left."

Not went to watch another band she loved - chose to go home early. I wanted to punch her in the face.

The discussion of Dylan and Neil Young and other 'old blokes' just gives me the excuse I need to again paste a link to the greatest line-up of 'old blokes' ever assembled together on a stage.

There are, in order of singing appearance from memory, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Two completely different but equally magnificent guitar solos from Clapton and Young at the end.

The backing band includes Steve Cropper (guitar) and Duck Dunn (bass) from the Blues Brothers (Cropper helped write Dock of the Bay with Otis Redding I think), GE Smith (guitar and 'conductor') from the House Band at Saturday Night Live and Jim Keltner is one of the drummers.

The song is "My Back Pages" is early Dylan. It's a ****in' cracker.

And here's an instrumental version of "A Day in the Life" by another oldie, Jeff Beck. The bass player (pictured below) in this band of fantastic musicians is from Sydney.

She did a better job of "Since we were lovers or whatever the Stevie Wonder cover he did from about '74".. She's not Pastorius, Clarke or Jackson, but she can play. :)

This one, mark73? I reckon it's a better performance by all of them. It made the cut to the concert DVD, whereas Day didn't.

The crowd response was excellent at the BDO - there was a real mix of ages - there were teens who were into it - in front of me there was a couple in their early 20s who were singing along to every song, there were old farts dancing - it was sensational. Most of the young idiots had cleared out to see The Prodigy or Dropkick Murphies. There was still a huge crowd watching and everyone had big shit eating grins on their faces.

Young and Free

There's nothing wrong with young Australian men showing some pride in some true blue dinky Di Aussie symbols. And if they did it together, then it shows that other great Aussie tradition of mateship.
