Imagine that’s a date for when everything is pretty much complete? Think it’s likely the oval and nearly all of the training facilities will be available to use for at least some/most of the men’s pre-season in November 2026
If the oval was a priority, it could be completed to full standard by Christmas 25. Conservative estimate and dependent on turf variety. The grass is nature after all and seasons happen.

Great result for the players to help with their transition from Westlakes to Thebarton. One building site to another :tonguewink:

Good to see work has begun.

Im not complaining but I feel we like we compromised and delayed more than we initially thought with Thebarton but we have to take what we can get. I doubt a second oval or a stage 2 will ever occur.
I can see a situation where we enter an arrangement with West Adelaide, similar to Freo and Peel, where West becomes our Reserves side and Richmond Oval, which is 3km away, becomes the 2nd oval.

Was an interesting article about West Adelaide in the paper today

Lost $250k on the back of losing over $300k the previous year. Facilities falling a long way behind other clubs, licensed club not bringing in money, two key people quit recently (president and CEO?). Future looking a little tenuous.

What you're saying there makes sense

They have been trying to attract the poker crowd through APL and have had some success but poker players are notoriously cheap when it comes to food and beverages

Yeah I agree

Unions definitely have their place, but there needs to be a healthy balance.

When clowns like Setka and the CFMEU constantly act like standover men it does unionism zero favours. That sort of crap becomes a lightning rod to those who push the anti union message and damages the reputation of the whole industry.
Act like?

They full on do it.

It’ll happen.

Now that work has started the NIMBY’s will quietly go away and focus on something else (UniSA’s Magill campus seems to be their project this year).

Port had to deal with NIMBY’s for the start of their Alberton redevelopment (though not has bad as what we copped), but the next stage is now happening with little attention from NIMBY’s.

It's been on a downward path for a long time. Ever since old Doug Thomas ripped them off for years.
The facilities are poor and run down throughout the club. They once had some decent meals and a dining room - it's basically shut down now. Even their pokies are for the diehards only and don't make money (hard to do!)

They need to spend a lot of money to improve the club (a bit like Glenelg did back in the day) and entice people back. It would be a big gamble though and could easily be a waste of money. They are in huge trouble and I can't see them getting out of it to be honest.

I used to work with a guy who was heavily involved at West Adelaide.

Back around 2017-2018 I can remember him telling me that the club was operating on the bones of it's backside and was pretty much insolvent. He said that West's biggest issue was that their off-field revenue was significantly worse than every other SANFL club and he wasn't sure how financially viable they would be long term.

Doesn't seem like anything has improved.

You could live your whole life in Adelaide, drive all over the place for years, know the metro area like the back of your hand and never stumble across Richmond Oval. It's a nice ground but it is the most hidden, out of the way facility in the state.

Unless you're in the brake fluid industry I don't think you'd ever go near there
