Numerous people here have pretty much said it's a sham process and wink wink nudge nudge it's ours.

I’d like to think we can be the preferred option because we have the best solution that meets the RSA plan and benefits the community

Why would anywhere want a sprawling sports facility?

Why not cram a billion units into the space and stuff them full of rate payers?
This is what I’ve been struggling with. I doubt any sporting organisation would find it easy to relocate now a days let alone one that is divisive to some people land one that doesn’t have a U12, U15 U18 teams that local kids can join. That’s why they need to do or offer something that makes them useful to the locals.
RSA is very community minded and it’ll play a large part in their decision making process

In the new housing developments that keep popping up north and south (and in Mt Barker) a lack of dedicated sporting facilities is a real problem.

There is a requirement for there to be a certain amount of "recreational space" per area/capita (I don't know the ins and outs) but developers get around this by having a few tiny parks dotted throughout (with a duckpond, wetlands, bike paths, basketball hoop and maybe a tennis court). No usable space for organised sport though. And the simple reason is that setting aside space for a football/cricket club simply means fewer houses, fewer dollars.

I assume we're a bit different as we'd pay a higher rate than the Reynella Wineflies for instance but I can't imagine an AFL club is a goldmine. Why aren't whatever council we're in now begging us to stay and falling over themselves to make accommodations?

We are currently in the City of Charles Sturt Council area. The Brompton site is also in the Charles Sturt Zone. They would not be losing us, I believe they are keen for us to move to Brimpton.

I remember going to a SAAFL meeting (circa 2017) and hearing that every single LGA in the Adelaide metropolitan area did not meet the minimum requirement of recreational space. It was an issue back then and now is turning into a disaster as girls' sport gets more popular. Ovals and pitches are getting trashed, and clubs are having to be based at schools, which often have fairly crappy/limited facilities.

Not keeping some sort of usable facility at Footy Park (i.e. women's footy hub) was a terribly short-sighted decision.

Absolutely sporting organisations and their facilities are good and necessary for the community and having a MCG sized oval in Brompton would be a nice addition to the area. I’d say its needed more than new housing that just adds more strain to power, water, roads, parking infrastructure and its why I hope they are the preferred developer, but I don’t think it adds much value to the community if all they can use it for is to get a coffee at the Crows Cafe or walk on the ovals between 8-10 and 2-4.
If competing developers have made room for offices and shops that could hold GP’s, Physios, Dentists etc then that may be preferable to RSA than just access to an oval. Either way we’ll probably hear more about that in the final proposals.
For organised sport, just across Park Tce are some sporting fields and tennis and basketball courts plus Fitzroy sporting club is not far away either.

Half the shops in the bottom of the buildings in the development are empty.

Happening around Woodvillle atm. Clearing off huge pieces of land and they're like "Oh, we'll add a 3-3 basketball court in" for some green space while they cram 4 houses into a block that previously would have held 1.

From what they are saying on AA, brompton is unlikely as developers are offering more money. And Thebarton will be a shitshow for 10 years with south rd works taking some of the current oval space and a huge superway being built out the front

Have you seen Kurrulta Park? Nothing but high density now. Every single house is being replaced with 6-8 units. Absolute mayhem

It really leaves us with very few options.

I still think the old West End Brewery site would have been best

AA wouldn't know anything.

They would be guessing
