It was empty because it was going to Port Adelaide.. hype ?
Yeah your right a club with no member facilities and transport is a dumb idea.
Build it in the city! Should've waited and got it right.

Build it in the city?

Are you going to contribute?

**** me, some on here have got no idea.

The whole Clubroom thing is nothing more than a nice thought for those that associate a local footy Club environment with an AFL club which is just not the current model.

For there to be an osite pub/club it would need to be financially viable with a decent business plan to make money. I can't see people flocking to Thebarton for dinner on a regular basis, especially those that don't live within a 5km radius.

I live 25-30 minutes away and would realistically maybe visit once a year!

Cafe is the most logical option to attract the mums and dads taking their kids to the playground and or the die hard supporters who want to watch the lads train.

As long as they can cater for some booze at AFLW and SANFL games then that is all that is required.

I agree in part, I don't think the traditional clubrooms are really nessecary for an AFL club. I do think we need some kind of function area over looking the oval though. Not for AFL after match or to hire out but I think it would be good to have something that can open on certain days.

Similar model to what the Wold Blass Centre is at Norwood.

I'm amazed. Adelaide has announced one of the most world class performance training and AFLW game day facilities and everyone is angry of a what was not said about a liquor licence. How pathetic...honestly. If the facilities give us the best chance of winning premierships who gives a * about a liquor licence. Yes, its a legitimate question about restaurant / bar facilities, but is it worth getting angry about? no.

Overall the concept designs are brilliant and I can't wait. The club has thought through this really well. We should be positive rather than finding something to complain about. No wonder the club took the strategy of staying silent. The rhetoric on 5AA in half an hour from angry crows fans had to be the most pathetic radio I've heard and it was embarrassing.

This! The primary purpose of this facility is to create an elite facility for all of our teams, and provide a permanent home for our AFLW side (and SANFL side once the other SANFL clubs cut their losses and let us have home games, which we’re starting to see with curtain closer games already).

The Thebarton Community Centre will be rebuilt as part of the North-South Motorway works, which encompasses this facility. This will be sufficient for any function space we may need at the club (AFLW post match functions, for example).

We do not need a licensed bar (outside of the cafe) on a day to day basis. The ground will have a liquor licence for matches played there.

Outside of AFLW (and possibly SANFL) matches, the only time people will make a special trip there will be for mens GF week training (and even then that’ll be to the secondary oval). The area has several food/drink facilities (Brickworks, West Thebby pub etc). The cafe is sufficient for day to day operations at the facility.

A function area is a must, they could hold functions and make some money.

As for a venue to grab a meal and a drink, that wouldn't have to be opened 7 days a week. Thursday to Sunday would give members a choice.

If you want to hold functions, you need to be fully professional about it. There are numerous function venues all around Adelaide and it is a very competitive market.

I have doubts that many of them were actually crows supporters

Just a little thing, hopefully there's plenty of cover for fans at the oval used for games.

Preseason games in summer and now AFLW games in Aug-Sept in Adelaide (rain).

Needs to be better than the traditional SANFL ground of big concrete slab steps around the ground.

Really? Spend a shit load of money on something that has minimal use.

How many venues that pay for a liquor licence only operate Thursday to Sunday? (Genuine question, I don't know)

I know the Eagles Woodville Oval facility and the Wolf Blass Centre only do meals a couple of nights a week (I assume associated bar facilities are licensed for a similar time frame).

The Eagles do have a facility on Port Rd that operates full time (and has no WWT branding).

That’s funny given so few AFL clubs have this set up (someone earlier mentioned Port and Geelong are the only clubs that still have a members’ club room facility).

Like I said I don't think we need a members setup. It doesn't have to be fancy but I think an undercover area to view the ground from in some form would good.

I think we need to calm down about the license. Olsen said it's still being considered. The plans are concept only at the moment.
The plans for the south rd upgrade also are yet to be finalised and may impact other drinking and restaurant facilities in the area, which may create opportunities for us to operate one instead
You don't want to get the local community off side early on by announcing you are competing with existing businesses or changing the social fabric of the area too quickly. Baby steps
At the end of the day if this facility helps us get a flag who would give a stuff?

I'm not too fussed about no fulltime bar/bistro although with the women training/playing home games at Thebby it does increase the opportunity for patronage - especially if the womens competition is "offset" from the mens competition.

Hopefully the AFL reserves happens at some stage and some of those games could also be played at Thebby - not all reserves games could be curtain raisers.

So what, that is no reason for our club to follow suit. It's a clean slate, all options should be considered.
Members are a huge component of a football club and the club should look to cater for a large cross section of supporters.

Assuming Mismatch are still a sponsor when completed.

A cafe where the diehards can watch training is all we need. Anything bigger will be a flop outside of mens Grand Final week (and we know how rare they are)
Away games are always popular at Alberton, and of course SANFL games and now AFLW games.

I'm with you on that.

But I would like a space big enough they can host away game finals matches on a big screen

Watching the GF out front of AO was lame, they should be able to have it somewhere Crows based. I watched a few at the shed and it was great atmosphere.
I agree this would be good.
