As I think you would expect, set shots are potentially more accurate than shots on the run and require a different interface.

I don't like quick-time games, I think they become monotonous, so expect as few meters as possible in all areas of the game including kicking for goal.

I would like a setup similar to the NBA 2K games. I know obviously it's a bit silly comparing a basketball game to a footy game. But I like the control system implemented and I think a system like this would be good.

When with the ball in general play:
X: Pass/Normal Kick
Square: Clearance kick
Triangle: Snap
Circle: Handball

R1: Torpedo modifier
R2: Sprint
L1: Spear pass (depends on players skill how accurate the kick is)
L2: Bounce ball

Here's what I think would be good though. A trick stick inspired movement control. The right analog is used to completely control the player. For example pushing it to either side makes the player baulk, pushing it forward makes them try to barge through the pack, and pushing it back makes them 'give the old don't argue' to anyone in front of them. The sprint could serve as a modifier as well. So when sprinting a baulk turns into a sidestep etc.

Obviously the moves would depend on player skill, so David Rodan and Stephen Hill could sidestep anyone within reason. And Buddy could give the don't argue to anyone. Except for the player (can't remember who) that brought him down a few weeks back :D.

Those ideas are just going off the top of my head, not too sure if they'd work or not.

Any suggestions welcome

Some people were talking about how bad the marking was in 07 if you thought that was bad you should've tried afl challenge on psp that's terrible

Yeah wicked witch couldn't have thought it was any good whoever thought "you know what would be good having two grounds and only one is an actuall afl ground" wasn't very smart.

My brother has a PSP and he bought it, decided I would give it a go. Tried it on the easiest setting, I was invincible out marked them every time. on the next mode up I would just get smashed due to them being super human and just taking very single mark. Big ant really need to get the skill setting right in this game.

it is a real tough task to get the skill setting right, cos if its on hard we dont want it to be superhuman like, cos then it just takes reality out of the game, but im sure big ant will have this covered.

You know what really annoyed me about AFL 04 and 05 was whenever you were going for goal you would have to watch it go through the posts from the same angle behind the goals that showed you nothing but when the AI would kick for goal youd get the angle from where they are standing and it looked really good from there.

Did annyone else find this annoying

Not really cause we had snap shot in 04 =)

Afl 06 or 07 dont now which one to play mmm

I don't know what type of plans you would have for a torpedo modifier and spear pass button. But personally I would like them to either not be there or be VERY hard to perfect. There'd just be too much use of those buttons in general play and online too, would become annoying if they weren't all that hard to use well.

I don't mind the clearance kick though, reckon that'd be a cool addition and really change up the gameplay. If it was a real scrubber kick generally and just for a metres gained type of option when in congestion. It'd work by having say the more power you put on it the higher it goes. So tiny power equals something that's about 5-10 metres along the ground, full power equals a really high hard to mark 15-25 metre kick and in between full and small power would see a flatter 30+ metre kick that's still tough to mark but on occasion you could grab. It's not got any real exploitative options either.

I think a snap kick modifier instead of a snap button would be better as well, it's a good button and was fun in the previous AFL games it was used it. But I can easily see exploitation of it, especially if it were to work like it did in previous games (no matter where or what angle you kicked it from the ball would snap towards the goal. Something that works similar to FIFA's curved shot in that the more power you use the more it curves or in an AFL games case bends, it'd have to have a bit more room to bend though in regards to power to bend ratio.

Hey Ross, is it possible for the ball to be grabbed out of the ruck? Not necessarily make it every time like AFL 2004 I think it was, where you could exploit the crap out of it, but for like boundary throw ins or around the ground if the opposition ruck mistimes his jump/tap?

Thanks anyway.

Yeh that would be cool if you could grab out of the ruck and quickly handball off to someone.

AFL 2004 / Premiership Edition was easily the best two in the series. 2005-2007 the gameplay went right downhill and everyone had generic faces. At least 2004 the main star's faces were modelled and you could tell if it was Nathan Buckley or Anthony Rocca and so on. Also the mini games were pretty fun.
