Adelaide Light
I know you were trying to poke fun at the whole thing, but this one's not actually all that bad. Not only does it have a decent ring to it, but it also has the advantage of being locally relevant and not just a US franchise type name. I like it! :thumbsu:

How long does everyone give this new format?

I'd be shocked if we weren't back to state association based teams within 5 years.

Can't see any of these sides (particularly those where there are multiple based in each capital city) gaining popular support.

I tend to agree. Victorians tend to get right behind their teams, though their T20 attendances are very fickle (they got 43000 last year yet only 13000 this year).

Sydney though is another kettle of fish - they barely get behind their sports teams even when they're going through a successful period (Sydney Kings mid-2000's the classic example of this), and NSW's T20 crowds were hardly anything to write home about, especially since they moved to ANZ Stadium.

I'll still support the new Adelaide side regardless, but it appears I'll be among the tumbleweeds at the T20 matches next season. However, I don't see why they needed to go to City-based teams. Why not just expand the current format to 10 games (play every team home and away) with the current finals set up as is.

stopped reading there
have you watched the South Australian cricket team over the last month?

Not sure you understood the point of my post mate

If we're going to have an animal name, I'd like it to be something athletic, powerful, something where you can imagine an anthropomorphised version of the animal playing the sport.

That said, Inzamam-ul-Haq does bear a striking resemblence...

Did anyone see the below article yesterday:

Gangsta-rap cricket - the Big Bash vision

For instance, New South Wales' two franchises - possibly named Sydney Sixers and West Sydney Thunder - may be playing in pink and lime green outfits respectively.

I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

What a pathetic attempt this is to create a new revenue stream for Cricket Australia. I may have fallen out of the youth age bracket a decade ago but I can't see any young fans being attracted by 'Gangsta-cricket'.

At times like this all you can do is wonder how much worse can it get.

I cant wait for the Adelaide Bloods to take on the Brisbane Crips.

You gotta be kidding me...

I can understand and appreciate the angst against the gangster rap style of cricket marketing but I don’t understand the hatred against the 20/20.

Unless I was mistake, the Red backs got like 50 people the other day against Queensland, whereas, if that match was a 20/20 game, they would have got like 12,000 as a minimum. Anything that brings people back to the game at a state level must be a good thing.

because it isn't cricket. In fact it isn't even electric light cricket (which is better).

I may well vomit

Hopefully the Adelaide Strikers  will wear a darker blue than that. May as well piss off the Power supporters whilst they are at it.

Normally I’m quite blasé about thing like that but why the hell couldn’t they just retain the branding of ‘Red backs’.

I saw that in the Sunday Mail and first thought went straight to the 36ers, not some cricket team. But meh, I’m sure it will grow on us and the branding and color scheme won’t stay like that for long as that blue is horrible.
