I'd disagree. You're just describing the stereotypical real estate agent, or for that matter sales rep. With any field there can only be a few at the top. These ones at the top do something that differentiates them from the masses (ie all those people you describe).
To be successful you have to be honest (within reason) and intelligent. You need to be able to see what things the masses do that stop them from being elite and then have the balls to back yourself and go the other way.
IMO so many real estate agents do the same stupid stuff as the rest and because they get a few sales and pocket $70k they think they're actually good at sales. These people will most likely never be elite because they have learnt the wrong habits. These habits limit their potential.
Exactly, the best thing to do is be honest and help people as much as you can. Do the extra things for them that other agents won't do. Keep regular contact with people, don't make them have to call you. I work an 11 day fortnight. The hours are very flexible though. The best thing is that your income is not limited. You can earn as much as you want.
