Not sure with Dave, as i'm not exactly sure where the club sees his best position. You'd think they would see his best position down back after what he produced prior to his knee dislocation. However they have swapped and changed him that much between forward and back this year to develop him as a swingman that i'm unsure where they see him playing predominately. Honestly think we may hold onto him, unless it is a trade involving an A-grader where he is packaged with our first and maybe something else or something too good to refuse such as a pick in 21-24 range (very unlikely, knowing that there will be some very good kids still available at that stage). Overall that Stingray and knee problem set him back a bit, if he can get back to that form from last year. It will be good contest to see who gets the nod to be Chappy's replacement.
So trade for a good deal...either end backup if remaining. Hmmm...wonder if he is first in line for either end vs McJesus vs Rocketman...just a shame re those knees.

Great news.

We are shoring up our talent. Miles extension is fantastic and Elton has shown enough to warrent the two years. IMO like others have said, he will be our chaplin replacement.

I've always thought that he was the Natural replacement for Chaplin...Could Elton also play the role? I wouldn't know as I haven't seen him enough at VFL, others care to comment ?

Elton 2 more years, Based on what? Being Tall?

i would consider Astbury to be chaplins successor based on what he did last year in place of rance but then again if he was performing like that this year, Chaplin would be in the reserves

Miles. Fine.

Not sure about Elton (or Astbury). Both are slow and iffy kicks.

Elton aint slow and Astbury aint an iffy kick.

I wonder if Freo might have an interest in Astbury? Dawson, McPharlin and Johnson aren't getting any younger. He's the type of player Wossy would love - disciplined, plays to direction, understands structures, has good skills.

I think Astbury is the better prospect than Elton. I wouldn't mind either of them being involved in the Treloar deal though.
I think Its more about depth than moving Astbury on. pressure for position should help produce better players and I like Astbury. With Elton around it will keep the competitiveness in the backline for the talls

Trade for Weller? or Crozier?

To win premierships you need to develop quality back-ups that can fit into the team easily when required. Elton is a long term prospect who will either be a solid back-up or a replacement. Astbury is in the same boat, and McBean and McKenzie up the other end. KPP's don't grow on trees, they are not dime a dozen and when you do have a quality one they are worth a fortune. We should do everything we can to keep our KPP's until other teams come knocking with big offers.

So you're saying Elton is an iffy kick and Astbury is slow? :D

Whatever, they ain't top shelf. Neither of them. A 3rd rounder for either of them would be a bonus. Elton in particular has been very ordinary the games he's played in the VFL this year. He's in his 4th season.

EAD I wouldn't upgrade any player this year, which will help with the delistings/recruiting for other players. This gives players that need to be recontracted a potential another year to show how good they are.

Dunno, if the draft is that weak this year (especially if we trade away our early picks) then we may only elevate players this year

At this stage the only elevation chance for mine would be Lambert, especially if he can start putting together numbers like he was in the VFL last year and earlier this year.

As for freeing up spots, I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign Grigg and Grimes and then leave the rest of the players until after trading finished. At least then you're going to the trade table with something to bargain with rather than signing everyone up and leaving ourselves with little room to move. Depending on how trading/free agency pans out that would then dictate who gets another go around and who get the thanks for your efforts and we wish you luck in your future endeavours

That's one thing that I really don't understand on this board. If a player isn't in our best 22 on a week to week basis it seems as though the majority of posters on here want to trade them or possibly even delist them.

For the first time in a VERY long time we have started to develop some quality depth. Best 22s don't win you grand finals, these days you need 30+ quality players who can all come in and play a role when called on throughout the year (hawthorn are a perfect example of this)

Fighting for their spot has played every game this year.
Should be re-signed has played two.

We really are in a great position to hit the draft...pity it's rumoured to be weak this year.

Newy & Axel both retired with honour...Arnot, Thomas, Dea rightly or wrongly have played 1 game this year...Petts and Knights are busted...Lloyd and Gordon so so marginal.

Nothing to trade with in this group...spose we will keep a few...but there sits salary savings and 9 TAC spots

Hunt was an oversight. Fixed.
