With Waite, Preuss & Nielsen gone & no talls brought in we are going to have a new game plan. McKay, Larkey & Durdin are unproven as tall forwards so we can't afford to bang it in high like the last few years. We only have Brown so we need to deliver it with more care.

Thoughts?

Preuss and Nielsen played a total of zero games in 2018. I’m not sure how them leaving would change our game plan.

Yes we need to rejig the forward line a bit but Waite missed a large chunk of games anyway.

Need a small forward to stand up so when it goes to ground we can take advantage of it. And by that I mean one that regularly hits the scoreboard

Honestly can’t see it changing much, we’ll just be able to execute better with the players we’ve brought in.

Basically this.

Anyone expecting some sort of fundamental change will be disappointed.

Preuss zero games
Nielsen zero games
McKay zero games
Larkey zero games
Durdin 1 game
Waite 14 games

Outside of losing Waite, who was probably injured in half the games he did play, they didn't have much impact this year. We also had Wood who only played 13 games, was handy scoring 1.7 goals a game despite having a number of soft tissue issues. We got doughnuts from Garner as well.

I think we have scope to change things around, not sure how much we will though.

To be honest, I think a bigger impact on our gameplan will be the extra run, carry and footskills we have brought in through Polec, Hall, Pittard. We have played a very contested brand of football and I expect some evolution (rather than revolution) to this now that we have greater offensive weaponry.

I think this also better equips us to take advantage of the number of marking options we have in the forward line - we don't have a lot of big guys; but every player is a marking option - Brown, Wood, Ziebell, Garner, Simpkin, Cunners, Higgins, Wilkinson, Taylor, TT, Zurhaar, etc.

We now have the ability to move quickly and lower the eyes. I expect us to look slicker in attack and better use a variety of targets this year.

Having the 6-6-6 rule should mean that if you win the centre clearance our forwards (especially Brown) will have significantly more space than previous years.

Hall & Polec to run and break all the lines!
Not sure about that. There will be 12 people inside the F50. I don’t think Brown has ever had to contend with so much congestion.

No there wont be. A back flanker from the opposition usually hits up into the centre bounce. IF our CHF stands on the square his man will be with him. So for a start there is 8 max. Without the 2 extra loose players of recent footy. I think we will see a return to umbrella formations, huddle setups, fat side leading etc.... now that there is more space to work in. A team that pulls its half back line deep to congest it will be left open for a running 40-50 metre shot at goal against a good clearance team.

Don’t all 12 have to start inside the 50 arc? No longer can a HBF or CHF start on the square.

I say we bring back Pagan’s 1993 game plan, long and fast into the forward line and kick bags of goals.
Who cares is we concede 20 goals a game as long as we are kicking 21-22.

As expected, ‘traditional’ playing positions will be enforced at centre bounces next year, with six players required to start in the two 50m arcs and four in the centre square zone, with two on the wings. Each team will need to start with one player inside each goalsquare.

So yeah, 10 guys in the 50 and an additional 2 in each goalsquare/goalrectangle.

Hopefully the boys are looking for Ziebell as a good contested option when we get a good center clearance
