Hi folks,

I've been posting here as Gabriel for a little while now because I don't want to use my old identity anymore. I've found it's harder to start discussions and people tend to ignore me more. Should I go back to my old, regular identity, or be stubborn and stick with this one? (regardless of whether you like the name or not).

G.

I know people don't ignore me, but I know myself when I read posts by regulars I tend to pay more attention to it than if its by another anonymous newbie with less than 50 posts. Harsh but true. We have over 2000 registered users on these boards, but how many are regualrs, and how many never post more than 50 posts?

Gee, I tend to think your old persona and reinstate the virtual legend status you had, especially here on the general forum. I never did find out why you changed over.

I like the Gabriel persona better than your old one. Anyway, thats my two cents worth (which rounds down to zero as someone round here once said).

Internet personas come and go.

As long as you're the same person and feel like you are contributing intelligently, why would you be upset if fewer people respond. I know I tend to look at the calibre of response rather than the 'fame' of the user (David Mensch excepted).

That aside, I'm getting up towards the magic three figures and instant credibility!

cheers

I've got no idea what your old name was, buit as Gabriel you make a lot of sense and I read your posts (usually I decline to add my own views in political/issue threads, though).

If someone can make a positive impact from their first post, I think people manage to pick up on that fairly quickly, and you'd gain people's respect through what you write, not through how many people respond to your topics.

You were a legend.... but G. could become one too. New Gabriel is a little less feisty than old G, but thats probably because of your rep?

By staying anonymous you also avoid a certain line of questions, if you wanted to?

Up to you :)

ok, I must admit, I have not seen one of your posts as Gabriel before until this one. Who were you before though. I guess we notice posters after a while cause by law of averages, the more posts, the more likely we are to have read a few.

I see posts from ppl as a matter of interest that topic would be too me.

I dont care how many posts ppl have. As Dan25 has around 6000 soon, I dont read most of them coz I know he craps on a fair bit.

So Yeh...... Go Back To Your Old Name

Mags

I don't think it matters..........I mean, we all started somewhere huh..........being the 'newbie'. To be honest I don't remember whether people paid attention to me when I first started posting, and I really don't care. :D And still don't care what you all think of me. :D lol.

Stick with the new name I say.........

I actually created a new name to post under, but still haven't used it. And probably never will. Mainly because I have Lioness's post tally rolling along nicely and don't wanna lose it. :D LOL

I don't what it's like for the regulars and the ones who have been around for a long time. But from a different perspective, being a newie myself, I probably tend to read more of the regulars stuff, but actually post to the threads from people with a lower post number. I guess I just think they might pay more interest to my stuff?

People mostly seem very friendly here, but there's a definite feeling of being the new kid on the block.

I certainly do Lioness, anything from the Beach Boys, the Beatles or Barry Manilow is right up my alley ;)

Barry Mannilow???? There is one ace song of his I find hard to get out of my head somethimes "Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking, and I sent you away, ooooooooooh Mandy..........."

Yeah, exactly!! Who's sorry now???????

I love that one Mandy but I prefer the one from the Simpsons, something along the lines of, "Ohh Mandy, you came and you gave me a turkey......" Absolute classic, I'd be happy to belt it out at the next Bigfooty kareoke night :D :)

Yeah that is a classic. I'm watching the Simpsons right now on Fox8.

OH!!! Just thought of a better version. Angel (the vampire) singing it at the Karaoke bar. That was the best. I pretended he was singing to me.......
