News New Jumpers for 2023

Eagles have missed a trick these last few years with so many clubs bringing out retro guernseys, and we just hang back, do nothing, and absolutely suck at the same time. You’d think getting on board with a few retro guernseys could’ve maybe taken some of the attention away from the absolute trash that has been our last few years’ on field performance. Lazy from the club.
for most clubs they use the retro jumpers as a cash grab, we don't need to do that

The reason the Eagles dont go retro is whenever they do pressure comes to go back to an original design.

Lets be honest the 1987 to 1999 Eagle is still the best one going around

Hasn't stopped us in the past though?? Just seems lazy the last 5 or so years, with nothing but the mandatory indigenous guernsey. Not even the dig deep guernseys (which were terribly lazy in the first place) we did a 10th and 20th anniversary 92 premiership guernsey, but no 30th. I do accept that the Castore deal could’ve had something to do with that, with it being an absolute cluster all round and needing sekem to come to the rescue. Everything to do with the club has been a little too relaxed and going through the motions since 2018.

It seems like everyone would love the novelty of bringing back the ochre eagle for a retro kit

For whatever reason I’ve always had the impression that the club take themselves too seriously to do anything ‘fun’ like that

Club doesn't seem to care for guernseys, took them forever to return the wings for the fans, after a massive campaign.

Ditched Puma who were arguably the best in the league.

Didn't make a pride guernsey last year and copped massive backlash.

Lot of little things that stack up over time.

I can tell you right now that I personally didn't care for any merch during Carlton's two-win 2018 season, so I think the smart move is just to forget these past couple of seasons existed and not have any special designs tie to it.

Besides, it would look like a cash grab and would be called out instantly for "not focusing on the priorities".

When the Eagles made the decision to go back to the modernised version of their original jumpers, they also decided to wear their Home jumpers unless directed by the AFL. (Clash and Indigenous Round.) They have only had three jumper each year since 2018.
Gather Round has been proposed as a place in the fixture where they could be creative with Retro or alternate jumpers.
Given the propensity for Eagles fans to purchase merchandise, the AFL is very keen for them to have a fourth jumper.
(Home, Clash, Indig being the other three)
I know a guy who has prepared graphics for the AFL to present to the club as options for Gather Round jumpers.

The 2002 heritage guernsey was peak.

Would like to see a navy variation of the current WC guernsey.

Rekon Id be a little bit filthy if I were a Suns or Giants fan, yeah they didnt exist then but its not a 16-team comp, its 18
Yeah I'm quite annoyed they didn't make anything for us, like we shouldn't have a 90s style jacket, but we could easily have a jacket/shirt with a old sponsor like everyone else

You would think West Coast would have some more one off designs. Its basically a licence to print money for them.

I wouldn't mind a throwback to their late 90s jumper. I'd buy that for the nostalgia of watching Peter Matea run down the wing.

has to be right?

a lot of these retro kits are terrible jumpers that fans despised at the time but are brought back as a novelty/meme worthy thing. Eagles media team is one of least in touch media teams going around and it makes sense why we haven’t had one yet. Freo are one of the first teams to bring one and their media team is on point and know the demographics that care for these are the kids and people between 18-30 ish.

I honestly say this could be worn today the the logo and wording doesn't look retro.
I can't believe the Eagles went away from that logo tbh. It feels like change for changes sake. That logo is their best one. The name at the bottom looks aged to me but the rest of the jumper is on point IMO. I also loved the navy version so maybe my taste is just bad.
