Wonder if Richmond will be mad about another team wearing yellow and black.
Collingwood seem to get mad when another team wears Black and White after all
Pies only mad when it involves vertical stripes and sorta looks like their kit.

Heck West Coast in the same vein could bar suns away kit

Further, because of the eagle head being in the way, I can't fully tell if the lines make the coastline and hence they just seem like random lines splattered unevenly across the jumper. Ditch the eagle head, make the lines a bit more like the shape of the Ochre and add some more yellow into it and I'd be happy. Not everything needs the eagle, like imagine an ochre without the eagle, it'd still look good!
My thoughts exactly in the WC board jumper thread. We’ve done this a couple times now where there’s been a nice design underneath, the club has clearly panicked late in the process and slapped the eagle on top, lest we forget the team were watching.

A few of the pre 2020 indigenous jumpers were the same.

You can see why West Coast were so reluctant to start making these one off guernseys like the other clubs, they are absolutely putrid at it.

Got the worst designers in the league on their payroll, two absolute shockers this year after Gather round.
I imagine they’ve softened given the poor results, it’s a way to keep some interest and revenue going.

I don’t even entirely hate this strip, but they have a half smart design in the wordmark there that integrates wings into the state outline, but then the one on the jumper is entirely different and probably far too abstract and doesn’t stand out enough or fit with the graphic style of the eagle head.

Much better than the Gather Round travesty. Who knows what the hell that was supposed to be. The worst jumper ever. At least the Bulldogs Marvel strip had intent on what it was supposed to be.

Not true, Eddie was cracking the shits on his podcast this year that ports white jumper didn’t have enough teal on it and was too black and white. He also didn’t like port wearing the silver v variant either.

Richmond literally wear a WA state jumper as their clash, so no leg to stand on

That west coast kit makes the old Gold Coast jumpers look good.

Wouldn’t the obvious choice be to take the clash jumper and replace the blue with black, where it with black shorts and it’d look like the WA state kit ?

On the plus side, at least west coast are trying something different with their guernseys this season.

Can’t help but feel like the vitriol towards this jumper (and the Gather Round one) is less about the jumper itself and more about the fact everyone wanted the Ochre, and it’s not the Ochre.

I thought the Electric Eagle was actually quite good as a fauxback and to that point, this jumper serves its’ purpose as a celebration/cross-promotion with the WA Day event itself (see below)

If it was me, I’d be making the WA shape larger to take up most of the guernsey and the Eagle head to become a secondary element under the HJ’s logo but each to their own and keep in mind that these things are often more than just a club designer or apparel designer and go through that many levels of approvals and feedback with different stakeholder needs and opinions having to be met.

And whenever Freight Train isn't in the room, everyone else should be asking "Where's Freight Train?"

making domestic cricket cool again 😤

Nah they are both terrible designs, nothing to do with the Ochre

Why are they terrible designs?

Terrible is a strong word, so curious what your feedback would be on how to approach differently?

Not the original guy but:

WA Day: just feels kinda lazy - it's just two logos slapped on the guernsey without any through put into how they intersect on it.

Ochre: As a kid this was the only guernsey that I had no idea what team it was meant to represent, which in my opinion is the biggest failure a guernsey can have. It does have some cool ideas but I think it was poorly executed and have seen many better concepts for it (many from you, actually).

They didn't care in 2007 when they wore a WA State of Origin guernsey, which later became Richmond's clash guernsey of course, and again, West Coast and the WAFC said nothing when Richmond did that

Yeah I agree, the "starburst" shape with the eagle smattered in the middle feels like oversight. It does kinda reminds me of the ochre in terms of placement, though.

It probably happened long ago but surely we've jumped the shark 🦈 now in regards to Footy jumpers. How many designs can a club wear per season before it becomes farcical?
I learnt that Clubs are apparently restricted to 8 designs a season. Source is the blokes who wrote the “Fibre of Freo” jumper book so a pretty knowledgeable source

For example, Freos are:
Home
Away (sponsor reversed home
Clash
ANZAC
Indigenous (purple only)
Starlight (charity)
Retro
Stealth

This probably points out the biggest problem with the WA Day top.

Its not a "starburst" shape, its actually the state of Western Australia. But the placement of the Eagle logo covers up the elements of the state shape that move it from being a generic 'starburst'.

The players weating the tops also shows they couldn't make the State shape bigger, because then it would be going around the side of their chest, instead of just being on the front.

Isn't it telling though that 8(!) designs per year is considered 'restricting'?

That is equivalent to a new design every three weeks. Praise be.
