The long, ‘polyester era’ anchor looks shit, whereas the old seagull looking original one actually works far better with the modern fit of jumpers and amount of sponsors.

The 2000s anchor just dominates the entire strip too much, the tighter and smaller one has a nicer balance to it
The prototype haze one from a few years back looks more thicker down the bottom than the 90s one, which is better because it makes the anchor look more stronger.

This was my attempt at blending the 90s anchor with the 2000s version, best of both worlds sort of thing.

The mid-90s Nike training jumpers had printed anchors that did a pretty good job of what you are trying to achieve:

The Bulldogs have made Ballarat their own
Not really. Even among the Auskickers here Bulldogs barely make a dent. Strangely enough most Auskickers in and around Ballarat end up getting their AFL halftime game down in Geelong.
The local media don't claim the Dogs, apart from the mental health programs which are great, and a big logo on Saxon House, you wouldn't even know the Bulldogs are here.

What was Freo’s reason for ditching the anchor in 2011 anyway? It’s a pretty strong identity, compared to whatever the chevrons are meant to represent.

I think it was a trademark issue with the Levi brand Dockers, though I recall there were some comments about an anchor not exactly being the best symbolism for a sporting club's mascot/emblem, not that I care about that stuff.

Gws vs Hawthorn gonna be a fun watch 😂
Yep we either get a terrible clash, or Hawthorn in one of the most hideous clash jumpers ever made. I'm hoping GWS wear the never surrender so that monstrosity doesn't see light of day in finals and there isn't a clash.

There was a possibility that it’d be GWS v Gold Coast, so thank god it isn’t orange and grey against yellow and blue. Hawks wearing their brown jumper isn’t great but at least you’ll be able to tell which team is which. Hawthorn did wear their normal kit v GWS away last year when they had the brown option, surely they couldn’t let that happen again.

It might have had something to do with the trend towards minimalistic design (similar to Port changing their guernsey around the same time)

I thought Freo changed because the anchor was holding them back, and they want to let it go, however I also would not be surprised if it was mostly due to design preferences for the chevrons, or copyright concerns for the anchor.

Would love to see it back permanently.
