I was watching Collingwood do their pre match warm up on Sunday at the G, and paid special attention to the midfield and it's centre square practice during this period.

What I saw was Blake Caracella and Paul Licuiria handling a group of about 7-8 players including both rucks and running them through midfield drills and practice.

Is this our replacement structure in the midfield area for Brad Scott's replacement, and if so, what do you think of it?

I like the idea, obviously Gavin Brown has to concentrate on the VFL team, but Licca and Blake have the opportunity and time to place more of a direct influence over the midfield group.

I hope what I saw continues, because we do need a replacement for Scott over the next few weeks, and I believe this may have been found.

Thoughts?

Two pretty good mids, with completely different specialties taking over:

Carracella, an outside goal kicking mid with fine finishing skills.

Lica a hard nosed, defensive player with extreme work rate

Both knew where an when to run, both read the play well, both know our players and structures very well.

Pretty happy with that set up

our mids were well beaten on the weekend around the ground.

Pendles 13 touches, Swan 22 and IIRC didak, leon and obree sub 20...

lets hope they haven't completely forgotten the structures that Scott and co put in place before he left...

Considering the most possesions was 24, Dayne Beams, a Collingwood midfielder, then i would consider anything around the 20's a good number...

Only Pendles was beaten, by the best tagger in the game.

Don't be sucked in by the modern high possession game. They are fairly low in comparison to the usual numbers but that should be expected against a real shut down one-on-one team like the swans.
If you look at the swans numbers its the same low numbers aswell:
Okeefe 20, kirk 11, goodes 20, jack 11, bolton 14, shaw 22.
Compare to the opposition on the day not to Geelong ripping through a side and getting 450+ disposals.

Licuria?

No wonder our midfielders got beaten.

Didnt see the 02 qualifying final did you?

Licca virtually won the game for us.

He is intelligent, great with the kids, played nearly 200 games as a top AFL midfielder and has inside knowledge on all our midfield setups and players.

Sounds perfect to me.

Caracella tops of the situation as a half forward/outside mid who played in 2 premierships.
