You must be new in the area because before the 90s, Lathlain park would attract 10-20k spectators on game day. The stadium even had a dedicated train station. Basically, your consultation wasn't required.

Would there be anything to stop them superimposing a portion of the second oval over part of the existing oval? That way they could have two different sized ovals without needing the space for two complete ovals, similar to a gymnasium with netball and basketball courts using the same space.


Well, they're building a synthetic running track around one of the ovals, so it would make the other oval awkward in certain places with a track going through it. Definitely not useable for WAFL games due to injuries, but may be acceptable purely for training.

I'm sure they can place synthetic turf over the track when its not in use.

No trolling ( sorry about the bad typos on the first post, phone typing) just peeved. I have lived in the Vic Park area most of my life so the area is my home. Even did my first driving lessons in the Lathlain oval car park. I am not adverse to living close to major sporting arenas, lived next door to Moonee Valley in Melbourne. Traffic and crowds there came with the territory especially on Cox Cup day. I also knew when we bought our house that there would be WAFL games. These days have a great vibe but they are only 10 to 12 days a year. The Demons training is also very low key as it is only in the evening on week nights. Also the school is very close to Brownes, the closest point in only about one to two hundred meters away. So to say that we didn't know is correct, it was not on the cards when we moved into our place. At that stage the Subi redevelopment was the then preferred option.

However, to have a huge multimillion dollar business move into a predominately residential area without proper consultation is in my view wrong (as I first posted I would be equally NIMBY if it was Freo). This was first mentioned in the press a few weeks ago, then we get a letter from the council less than two weeks ago about how they were exploring the idea and now it is already pretty much a done deal.
 
However, to have a huge multimillion dollar business move into a predominately residential area without proper consultation is in my view wrong (as I first posted I would be equally NIMBY if it was Freo). This was first mentioned in the press a few weeks ago, then we get a letter from the council less than two weeks ago about how they were exploring the idea and now it is already pretty much a done deal.

Yep, HOA signed after you being told 2 weeks ago they were looking into it? Wow, that's quick. You would think some consultative process would have to be followed? We're building a junior cricket clubrooms and they consulted for ages... Well, it seemed a long time. :p
 
Lathlain Park has been on the cards as an option since 2010 and it's been well publicized. With the stadium moving to Burswood, Lathlain quickly became the front runner.

PFG hasn't raised a single issue of note that suggests this shouldn't happen. Residential properties exist everywhere, so do schools and this doesn't represent a change in the use of the land.

There isn't likely to be all that much more parking provided than already exists, which means that changes to traffic will be minimal. As it stands Roberts Rd can already get pretty busy during peak periods.

There is nothing being done there that doesn't fall within the mandated use of the site. It's already a 20k capacity stadium with a function centre, gymnasium, offices etc. Those facilities are merely being upgraded. Again, you chose to live near a stadium. Just because that stadium was under utilised when you moved to Lathlain was no guarantee that it would continue to be indefinitely.
 
It's hardly going to have a big impact anyway. People only attend training sessions for top 4 sides, and the supporters club will almost certainly be a modest family environment.

It's an interesting shift in many ways. The move away from the western suburbs is now complete. Most Eagles players tend to spend their time between Subiaco and Claremont, and I guess you'd say that's typically the area they're best supported. It'll probably take a while for that to change, but down the track there'll be no reason for them to associate with that area. Vic Park is looking like a good place to live right now!
 
Would have liked for us to redevelop Subi (assuming the land doesn't get sold for housing) as we have so much history with the place, but whatever is better for the club I guess.:thumbsu:

- Substantial on street and verge parking for Perth FC home games. (10 games per year).
- As much community access to the site as possible.
- Perth football club to remain on site in their present location.
- West Coast Eagles lease the site for an initial term of 50 years with extension option for an additional 49 years (for a nominal cost only), in return for.
- $1 Million dollar contribution to the Perth Football club towards new club buildings.
- $1 Million dollars contribution to the Town to upgrades to the remainder of Lathlain Park, (Playground areas, parking, landscaping, parks, picnic areas, barbeques, multi-purpose courts).
- A host of localised community and business benefits.
- Substantial training and administration buildings, funded and built by the West Coast Eagles, on the southern side of the site.

It sounds terrific and, if it has been a long time coming, it is great to see the club finally doing something about developing its own training facilities.

The Eagles also received good news off the field this week, with the Town of Victoria Park formally endorsing the club's bid to relocate to Lathlain Park and establish a new elite training and administration facility.
The council voted unanimously to begin drawing up and formalising lease agreements on the facility after taking community feedback on the project.
West Coast hope to relocate to Lathlain Park by 2017 in a new $50 million facility which will be established jointly by the club, Perth Football Club and the Town of Victoria Park.
Chief executive Trevor Nisbett said the centre would include a new supporters' facility and two training grounds, one with the dimensions of the new Burswood Stadium and the other the same size as the MCG.
"Lathlain Park is, of course, the home of the Perth Football Club, and it is important to us that the Demons continue at Lathlain, which has been their home since 1959," Nisbett said.
"As part of the Eagles' commitment to the Lathlain project, the Eagles will support a planned upgrade of the Perth Football Club facility, matched by similar support for the development of community facilities for the year-round use by residents."

Take consolation from the fact that if your council knows what it's doing, it will invest the resulting cash flow wisely and indirectly increase the value of your property.
