OK, so I was thinking about this season and initially I was as negative as most of you guys out there (judging by the posts), however the more I thought about it, the more positive I became... and this is why:
Perhaps, this is the season we HAD to have in order to give our youngsters a chance to gain experience and to see who could play and who could not. What better excuse could we have for trying out all the kids than injury? It gives Craig a free reign to experiment while at the same time not stepping on anybody's toes.
Think about it... we were still in it up until last week even though we were playing a lot of young kids. That's a good thing for supporters. I'd much rather sit through a season like this then to KNOW before the season starts that we have no chance and are just blooding young kids. At least it's a little more exciting, albeit frustrating.
In addition, I'd rather have a season where the impetus is put on the kids to perform (and 2nd tier) while McLeod, Edwards, Goodwin, etc have still got some semblance of youth in them than to have this season come at the very end of their careers. At least this way we can hope to have a lot of improvement from the kids next year WHILE Macca, Edwards, etc. are also still capable of significant contributions.
Imagine how much worse it would be if this happened 2 years from now when the old stars were retiring and we had to hang all our hopes on young kids suddenly turning into matchwinners.
