New Position

So guys every year it seems freo mixes it up a bit.
Which players will be thrown into a new position?
Which do you reckon will work out?

Personally I think with the influx of medium sized defenders mundy is the first to be experimented with. Whether that be forward or midfield I dont know, but his football smarts and foot skills should be tested.

With Sandilands conquering all before him in the coming season, longmuir may appear to be wasted. After the experiment up forward not exactly working and considering McPharlin is now up there I think maybe he could play a loose man in defence or even perhaps the midfield?

Polak definitely down back untill the kid gets some confidence

Medhurst in the WAFL is another new position I think should be tried out and perhaps Gilmore in the side to even things out

What does everyone else think?

I think we will see:

(1) Polak down back - almost a certainty. I reckon he might play more as a FB rather than a CHB, depending on matchups.

(2) One of Bell, Hasleby and J Carr to play more as a winger/flanker. One of Schammer, Black, Dodd and maybe Peake to play more in the middle.

And maybe:

(3) Drum to play forward in AFL - looks too good to sit in the WAFL for a year. CC mentioned he might play as a third tall forward and I could see that happening given his defensive ability, speed and high skill level.

(4) Mundy to play more as a CHB-like defender (Again depending on matchups).

Unlikely:

(5) Medhurst in Defence - I think that him doing that in practice games was just to try and get him to add to his defensive side and learn new tricks to confuse defenders.

(6) Longmuir in Defence - Could theoretically happen but just doesn't seem like any coach is interested in the move. More likely to see him continue to rotate through the ruck with Sandilands.

Players that could play forward might be Matty Carr and if fit then possibly Hayden if Medhurst lacks form/confidence.
Mundy might go forward, but I'd prefer him to cement a spot down back.

With the game supposedly getting a bit pacier then I think Sandilands will be relying on Longmuir a fair bit for a rest. I think Sandi will take a breather on the bench and Longy will sometimes rest in the forward line IF matchups allow it.

Otherwise I think CC may be done experimenting and this year may simply be trying to consolidate players in their best positions.

As it stands I dont have much faith in Mundy for much of a future at freo.
The kid has talent but I think will struggle to find a position, and my impression of him is that he is too easily knocked off the ball.

You've got to be kidding right. Are you talking about Mundy or Murphy? Your comment doesn't apply to Mundy and could be related to Murphy, though give the kid a break, its no surprise a skinny kid gets knocked off the ball. Especially since he's a key position player.

You must be talking about Murphy there is no way you could have that opinion of Mundy

Roger Hayden to make a HFF flank his own.

Daniel Haines to debut in Round 6 as a tagger and make that little ********er Daniel Kerr wish he'd never been born.

Murphy to play across half forward in the pre-season, and gets how to play AFL, and proves to be that third tall forward leading up to the wing and back again. Kind of what Hansen does for the Eagles but better.

Michael Johnson starts playing full-back and gives it a good crack winning some and losing others, and freeing up Robbie Hadrill to become every HF flankers nightmare. Just as fast but twice as strong.

Gilmore to rack up the possessions for Souths as he refuses to demonstrate enough accountability for the AFL.

Peake is one of those players that could just as easily fall off the map this year..as they could star.

Sounds good but whether it will work out is an entirely different matter.
Hayden is another that may struggle to get their place back.
I cant see freo having room in their starting team for both Walker and Hayden

I like this idea though I still believe that Hadrill should take the starting FF with Johnson the next replacement.
Without doubt though deserves a place in the side.

I take nothing more than a passing interest in the WAFL, though surely if the guy is killing it back there he deserves at least a few games to show what he has in the big league.

There must have been a reason we hung on to him, because if he hasnt cemented his spot come year end this year his trade value is absolute 0.

I can see Gilmore getting some games on the bench ala Callum Chambers at the Eagles, but I can also see him going the way Ralph suggests.

Is Hayden's kicking good enough for HFF? For mine I am assuming that Farmer and Medhurst are a shoe-in, so they might be looking for a tallish HFF. Either M.Carr (192cm), Dunn(186cm), Murphy (192cm) or Drum(189cm). Or Webster - despite a lot of fans jumping of the wagon I don't think CC has lost so much faith in him yet.

In regard to the FB, I think they will just matchup with whomever is healthy and fits the bill.

That's hardly new. We're talking potential new positions.

Plus I reckon telling Shane Parker his position is up for grabs is a bit pointless. He is a legend. He knows how he is going. This is the guy who started the media conference for his 200th game by announcing his retirement from kicking in. To a lesser degree the same for Hadrill and Grover.

O'donnell and Spalding need to make sure that Elvis and Pav are not in each other's way. Wiz and medders are playing specific roles.
