Like to say im preety annoyed with the current state of the board as threads are concerned. At times a single topic e.g the delistings receive anywhere between 2-10 threads.

ODN told me that majority rules so vote away. Yes to keep it the way it is.
Or No to give the moderators the duty to only allow one thread per topic.

Your last 2 lines aren't consistent with the thread title

Majority rules. That's the only fair and democratic way of doing things around these parts

its hard sometimes when ya post a topic you see on the news or paper and theres no topic on it sometimes after ya post it theres another similar pops up
which is unavoidable , if their was only one lot of topics would make it less clattering and easier to find :thumbsu:

I think there is a fair difference between having 10 threads and having a blanket rule saying everything on a topic goes in one thread. Some threads branch off on to other issues which look out of place when merged with other threads.

I appreciate you have moderated elsewhere but the moderators have enough work in amongst real jobs, editing, messaging, banning posters, to be able to merge all threads on a whim. As discussed there will be no more moderators added and moderators have to pass through admin, not simply a matter of nominating themselves.

Some boards merge everything, Rugby League and Society boards for example, and the posters there generally complain about that style of moderating. I think it important that people understand what they are voting for. For those that don't want it changed, you need to vote to be counted.

Perhaps, there should be an option for limited merging, not blanket merging. Many people would fit into that group.

I understand that some topics branch off but 75% of them dont and are just saying the same thing. Thats what im talking about when i say 1 thread per topic.

First post is confusing, contradicts the poll. But anyway, I like it as it is, threads with hundreds of posts get annoying, you don't know what you're reading (ie. have to go back pages to understand what the dissucsion is currently about), whilst different threads are specific and shorter, as well as the issue specified in the topic. Much easier IMO.

shouldnt become one per general topic. It has gotten crazy with thornton etc but not too bad. when someone makes a too similar topic its normally shot down fairly quickly

Too many threads....

There are just too many threads on the same topic............oops, sorry just saw the poll.:thumbsu:

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

One of your more amusing posts Bluebear. Glad to see that not everything has to be serious! ;) :thumbsu:

Merged.

I find the multiple threads-same subject slightly annoying.

Mainly because you read both threads but if you make comment you are probably making the same comment in both to different people most likely.

If all such threads are merged it means more points of view are held within the one thread rather than in 3 seperate threads.

I thought it was headed a completely different direction, but I bow to your discretion........:D

On a more serious note (sorry), surely its up to the individual posting the new thread to check the board and see if there is a current topic. I think people tend to get an idea and just post it rather than chack to see if its already up.
Don't be afraid to pull a thread back onto the topic either. Chances are other people are waiting for the ***-for-tat to stop to get an opinion in.

well sometimes the individual doesnt check which is why i think it needs to be enforced. All it takes is a simple lock, not sure if you can delete but most certainly lock it.

I find we have some articulate thoughtful threads started on a topic while other more inarticulate low brow threads are started on the same topic. Merging them may cause the articulate one to become less articulate and so forth.

I mean .. is it fair that we deny those that only speak SMS their own outlet? I think not.
