Toovey - has everything you want from a tagger.

Quick, long arms, a decent tackle, and is one of the closest marking defenders I have seen in my life.

Easily Collingwoods number one tagger...

By a country mile.

Johno and Daisy come second.

Buckley is renowned for being offensively minded, so it would be quite a turnaround for him to become a quality tagger. That's not to say it can't happen though.

Tristan Francis has the mindset and the skillset. I have also seen Wellingham put in some sterling performances effectively as a tagger, and to do the job he'd only need to improve his concentration over four quarters.

he is also on his last chance in the afl, if mick asked him to tag, im sure he would change that mindset around pretty quickly

To the best of my knowledge, Buckley was not recruited as a tagger. Imagine Shannon Cox playing as a tagger. Buckley's role in the team, if he makes the grade, of course, would be to run or finesse the ball and seek options upfield.

If Toovey is freed up from his backline role, I imagine he would be no.1 choice to tag out of the middle. Maybe someone else will emerge as an alternative, but for now, Toovey is our best tagger.

When you look at guys like Ling and Clinton Jones and Kane Cornes to a lesser extent, a lot of their stopping power comes from being able to push and nudge their opponent in unfavourable directions before they get the ball. Can't see Barham being able to do the same.
Very solid point. :thumbsu:

Toovey's not a tagger's arseh*le. Very good small-medium negating defender inside 50 though.

Agreed, not smart enough.
It's a lot easier to be a small defender in the defensive 50 than in the midfield where the mids can run in any direction than when you have the whole field in front of you.

Would he have the Speed to go with the Quickest Mids Though - Remember Shaun Burgoyne destroyed Toovey

Why do you say he is on his Last Chance for?

hopefully bucks can mentor barham with regards to his kicking because there was noone better than nathan buckley at spotting up a pass and hitting a target.

Personally, i'd like to think that Barham can make the grade as his pace and intensity at the footy are great attributes. Also we have to remember he's only about 20 years old so he hasn't physically matured yet.

A lack of speed wasn't the reason Burgoyne destroyed Toovey that game TD. Speed is an asset Toovey doesn't lack. It was his almost total lack of spatial awareness that screwed him and is the same reason I doubt he'll ever make it in a midfield role. Some players are just better with the play unfolding ahead of them. Heater is one of them, Toovey fits into this category as well.
