Ever since we made modifications to our weight program I was really interested to see how long it will take until we can notice the difference. From all reports so far it is working beautifully.
Biglands looks bigger than last season. Bock and Hentschel have put on 5 kg in the pre-season and Fergus Watts was just on 5AA and said that he has put on 4 kg since he came over. In the last few years we would have been lucky if a player put on 4 kg in a whole year let alone in a couple of months. Our younger players are having 4 weight session a week with emphasis being on getting beefed up rather than aerobic as was the case in previous years.
With this sort of training programs we can expect our youngsters to have AFL ready bodies by the start of next season.
Some other things from Watts interview:
* He suffered a slight strain of achillies tendon which will set him back a bit in his gaol to play some Wizard Cup games.
* He is loving it in Adelaide and has settled in very well.
* He is living with Johncock and Parker and is planning to study Human Movement at UNISA.
* He wants to play a few games this season and will use his 1st 2 years at the club as development years where he will pick brains of our more experienced player.
* Carey has already been of big help in teching him how to use his body in marking contests to get his opponent off balance.
Overall it was a very interesting interview and Watts sound like a great fella.
P.S. Bassett was on yesterday and gave big wraps to Hudson, McGregor and Skipworth. He reckons Skippy will surprise a lot of people and will play quite a few games and probably doesn't get the hype that some of the other youngsters get. Hudson splits packs and will really push our 2 ruckman for a spot in best 22 and McGregor is very underrated.
