Pyke isn't young. Same era as Worsfold and Sumich. Also coached with Phil at the Eagles, and us during the early Craig era. Was instrumental in our innovative game plan back then that saw us become unbeatable for a while there.
We fell apart as soon as he left.

Not discounting Pyke. Just thinking who else is still involved in Finals and could he a good fit for our playing group. Peter Sumich was the other guy I thought of.

A few posts up someone suggested the media are all over Pyke. So it may not be him.

Tend to think it is out of Pyke or Sumich.

Leigh Tudor?

I lean towards Pyke as Roo would have played under him. Had Walsh like raps on him back then.

sumich has an amazing record player and assistant coaching wise, wish someone would give him a go, wonder why no one has?
Doesn't interview well I've heard.

i just dont see why the love for Worsfold, i think the way the Crows have played has very little to do with Worsfold and a lot more to do with the players themselves and Campo. His last few years at WC were pretty bad and they were going very much into a culture of mediocracy. If you were not going to sign Campo then id be going for the complete clean-out with new coaching staff on every level

The love for Worsfold is largely generated from him stepping in and supporting the club

I tend to agree there is a light and shadow side to Worsfold, on one hand he is a premiership coach however the shadow did is he also had many lean years and there was major culture issues under his watch

I actually think DOC is his ideal role, appt him as a senior coach will come with an element of risk

if the club lands Pyke I wont be to concerned about Woosha going to Essendon, I think Pyke will come in with a Walsh attitude to the role that is he wont want a DOC support, he will back in his own skills, experience and knowledge

I wouldn't be quite as negative about Worsfold as you've been but I'm sharing a similar sentiment.

I'd love Worsfold as DOC as that would be suiting all his reported strengths without worrying about offsetting his question marks.

Having said that, Campo did an amazing job with strength of character and resolute calmness in predominantly following WALSH's plan through. Failed big time this week but that's fine, he's a good assistant coach…but not the senior coach for us.

I said it weeks ago: Worsfold-Pyke is the dream!

Rumours indicate Worsfold has been poached though.

I'm not sure Pyke will need a DOC if appointed, I sense he might do same as Walsh and back I his skills, knowledge and experience

DOC role is over rated in my opinion. To me it seems like the football industry created a role to keep people in the game that didn't want the pressure or responsibilty of a senior role.

I also think Worsfold's influence in the last few months has been a bit over rated. I am sure it has been great to have him around but really Campo and other coaches deserve the credit.

I agree, and I'm with TSR; unless we're getting a young, inexperienced coach, then we shouldn't need a DoC. Footy Ops manager, sure, but if you need a DoC, you've got the wrong Coach.

Contrast Sando and Walsh;

When Sando's wheels fell off in 2014 and everyone realised I'd been right since the 2012 finals (sorry, couldn't help myself), all of a sudden, he starts working that he's out of his depth and needs a senior, experienced person to help him out.

Walsh - I don't need a DoC, I'm the senior coach and I'll run the program; and I'll reconfigure the offices as I see fit, and get the right people in the right places - the people I want.

If a coach needs a babysitter, then just employ the babysitter.

I think Roo is a strong believer in the last part too, hence Sando was out the door so quickly and it's why i suspect Campo probably won't figure.

The only way I see them bringing in another senior guy is Pyke gets the gig is they'll be afraid that he'll burn himself out like Walsh was doing. He was bloody going 24x7 and they told him at the mid year review that he needed to pull back a bit and spend a day and a half a week doing something else. If we do have a similar edict to the new coach, another experienced hand could lessen that load a bit on the new coach.

I would rather Pyke have strong Assistants that he can delegate more tasks

Doesn't need to be in a DOC role, but we've had a fairly inexperienced coaching line with Dasher, Clarke and Teague all being 5-6 years at best and Campo with a bit more, I don't think it could hurt to bring in another experienced line coach to help out more. Maybe Campo can do that if he goes back to being an assistant and from the sounds of it Milburn won't be around either, so there's another chance to bring in a strong assistant to help out.
