I would never select a bowler as a captain but that's exactly what I've called

good luck cummins

Captaincy, i'm torn between Cummins and Labs. Leaning towards Cummins because he's been VC but what happens with their fast bowler rotation policy? Does Labs become VC or potentially someone like Hazelwood/Lyon if Cummins is rested?

I would go Cummins as Captain as he's had experience as VC. I would have Marnus as the VC or Hazelwood.

Cummins.

If they pick Carey he can be VC and both him & Smith can do the field when Cummins is bowling.

If Cummins gets injured Carey can be a good deputy but I wouldn’t give it to him full-time.

We need Smith in full-time run-scoring savant mode.

Now I'm not being serious here, but:

We have a dick pic scandal, they have a racism scandal. Who are the shitter blokes?

Appoint Usman captain. First Muslim / POC to captain Australia, meanwhile the poms still have Joe "Johnny Tightlips" Root with a bit of explaining to do about the whole racism affair at Yorkshire. English cricketers definitely the shitter blokes.

With the moral victory sorted, and Usman confident he won't be dropped all series, we can then progress with steamrolling them 4-0 (allowing for obligatory MCG draw)

Again, not srs.

With Smith and Warner being unable to do it, pretty much leaves Cummings. VC for a reason. Good luck to him. We haven’t had a good run, first Smith, now Paine. Time to bring some decency back to the job.

Think VC would suit Labs, put more responsibility on his shoulders and calm him down a bit. Can't pick another bloke in the side just to be captain, they need to be good in their primary role first. Cummins Captain, Labs VC. Then you have Lyon, Hazelwood, Warner, Smith with experience/support.

I dont think the general Australian public would warm to the idea of Steve Smith getting back to the captain. Make no question when he was captain- tactically I didn't think he was that bad.

It would sort of send the message that after a brief period of time- bad acts are accepted.

Australia has the same problem it had when Smith and Warner resigned (hell, when they were appointed as well); there aren't two qualified people to fill the roles. Cummins is really the only choice but even that leaves VC...imo, Smith, Warner and Labuschagne are a no-go, Harris on shaky ground, Green too new, so it would have to be another bowler. Hazelwood, I guess. Has any team ever had two fast bowlers as C and VC?

I am hearing CA has added Mitch Marsh to the squad. What is this telling us?

I am putting Pete Handscomb on that list. His FC record is not too shabby plus he has a terrific record skippering the Vics. Is younger than Uzzie so can be in charge for longer. As he is a decent player of spin he will be more than valuable next year with three tours to the sub continent. And just to add some iceing.. when he was dumped from the Test side he averaged a perfectly respectable @38. This season he already has a ton and a 90 from his only two games.. so is in form.
Had he captained before being given the national reins? I dont recall that he had. Certainly not the Blues.. perhaps his club side?
CA did it with smudge then why not Marnus. We want a batsman that will be a cert selection for the best part of the next decade rather than using someone as an interim measure such as Usman.

Historically Australian cricket simply doesn’t reward bowlers, especially fast bowlers with the captaincy
Its weird

Our best fast bowler needs to concentrate on being our best fast bowler if the Aussies want to win. Give it to just about anyone other than Cummins, other than Haze.

There's an argument to be made for Lyon as a Hussey-type pick. Not picking him as a future captain, but as a senior figure and a safe pair of hands.
