Next Captain and Vice Captain?

Let's say that Nathan Buckley retires this year... Who replaces him? I know, James Clement is Vice captain and would replace him, if he decides to play on a few more years, or would you do it differently?

I'm thinking Burns, Thomas, Lockyer, Swan, O'Bree, and maybe even Presti are up there for a Vice Captain/ Captain spot (along with the members of the leadership group).

In the next few years I would have Lockyer as Captain and Thomas as Vice Captain (Burns could be Captain as well but he is a bit past that I would think).

Don't forget Fraser... and Heath Shaw would definitely be in the mix. By all reports he's a future captain.

Oh yeah Fraser... Opps. I'd have Frasier as my Captain and Lockyer as Vice. I think Heath could get a few years on his belt before becoming Captain... But if it's youth we want I'd have Heath or Thomas as captain and maybe Pendles in a few years as Vice.

yep. Clement because of class and media nouse. Skip over Fraser and Johnson, who may continue to do good work as deputy captains - but neither seems to have exuded much on the inspiration front so far as stand ins for Buck/Clemo - instead it's Maxy who gets the pre-game huddle into a frenzy.

But for the "stick with us; we're going places" speech alone, [plus inspirational play that may go further into the midfield in future]; Heath can stand in for Clemo any time he wants as deputy.

Yeah. I pointed this out.

He's a real asset by the way he jumps backwards into packs, and even if he does get towelled up, it lifts the team.

But the same can be said for Thomas, Burns etc.

Maxwell is in the current leadership group. I think he would be a good option. I would go with someone like Clement. Then rather have a vice have a leadership group like they do currently and have players like Maxwell, H Shaw, Burns, Johnson, Pendlebury, Thomas and maybe even O'Brien.

I am pretty sure that Fraser stood down from the leadership group just after the start of the season or something so that would count against him as being captain.
