Sydney will be a really tough game. They are a very good good side. We will need to put enormous pressure on them. Collingwood will be a close game, if we show up to play we should be fine.

We could win all five or just win two of them. I'm taking this year from week to week and play to play. Let's see how we come back after the bye, if we dispatch of Melbourne and then Adelaide easily enough then I'll feel better about the next two games.

He key to beating Melbourne and Adelaide is structural discipline. Collingwood away and Sydney at home will take some good performances to differing degrees. If Sydney bring their better defensive game and a game plan to disrupt us then we might struggle. Our bogey team IMO.

Collingwood don't worry me to much there a very workmanlike blue collar team this year playing a High intensity defensive gameplan. If we stick to our structures and keep cool we can exploit there poor ball use outside defensive 50. Swans on the other hand terrify me there inside midfield group can and probably will monster our midfield be a real ice tester that game

Melbourne W
Adelaide 50/50
Collingwood L
Sydney L
Gold Coast W

If Melbourne play possessed like they did against the Cats then 50/50.
Adelaide haven't been playing too badly, just been beaten by great teams.
Collingwood always beat us in Melbourne, can't see it changing.
Sydney are top 2 quality, cant see a win here unfortunately.
Gold Coast should be a win, they're decimated at the moment even if Ablett comes back in.

3-2 is pass. Anything less and I think we will fall back to the pack of finals contender teams.

Where's the optimism!? Rose-tint-on-time.

Adelaide have lost to WB (smashed), GWS, nearly Carlton, Port, Hawks, Freo.

With the exception of Freo and the Hawks, not exactly quality.

Collingwood has been patchy as well, we'll beat them. Just need an early run on.

4-1 or 5-0, barring mass injuries and on current form.

R14 v Melbourne (Darwin) - WIN - Melbourne will come down after last week's efforts
R15 v Adelaide - WIN - We should easily beat them at home.
R16 v Collingwood (Docklands) - LOSS - I think their game plan could be a good match for us, being at Docklands will hurt us.
R17 v Sydney - WIN - I think we'll surprise a few with this one.
R18 v Gold Coast (Carrara) - WIN - They have been terrible this year.

Would happily go 2w 3l in the next three if one of the wins was against Sydney. It's not just that they've been impossible for us to beat in 8 years, but we don't really have an answer to their two KPFs. They always throw the entire kitchen at us and if we can win then we will have shown that we have the mettle to bat deep into finals regardless of where we start.

I would take that. Would love a win over the swans even if it meant dropping one

Posted this over on the Non-Eagles thread. Seems relevant here as well:

"Some really good/important games for us in the next couple of weeks.
ATM NM are putting GWS to the sword.
Next week Freo take on Collingwood (if we concede 1st spot is Freo's then a belting would really hurt Collingwood's top 4 chances).
Also next week Sydney take on Richmond (either result could work, Richmond losing would mean that they are very unlikely to be a top 4-6 chance, Sydney losing would open up 2nd spot, for a time).
The week after Sydney play Port. If Port lose again then top 4/6 is out of the question and top 8 is becoming more unlikely.
Richmond play GWS. If GWS lose today and in a fortnight their season is over IMO.
Also in round 14 Adelaide play Geelong. If we slip at all these two teams will be competing with us for 6-9 position. Either losing would be good for us, I think I'd prefer Adelaide losing slightly (only because we know we have Geelong's measure).
Then in round 15 Port verse Collingwood. By this time Port's season may be gone so obviously it will be better if they beat a team like Collingwood.
North verse Geelong this round as well. Would probably prefer Geelong to win.
We verse Adelaide in a must-win and then Hawthorn play Fremantle (again, if 1st/2nd is conceded to Fremantle then it is better if they beat Hawthorn).
Finally in round 16 Geelong play the Bulldogs (who may be higher on the ladder by this point).
We play Collingwood (another ultra important game).
Sydney play Hawthorn (either losing is great, let's say it is better to be fighting Sydney for 2nd than allowing Hawthorn any opportunity into the top 4).
And Port play Adelaide (and ordinarily match up well on them).
So IF nearly all of this was to go our way from now until the end of round 16 the ladder could look like this:
1. Fremantle - 14 wins
2. Sydney - 13 wins
3. West Coast - 12 wins
4. Geelong - 10 wins
5. Hawthorn - 9 wins
6. Richmond - 9 wins
7. GWS - 9 wins
8. Bulldogs - 9 wins
9. Collingwood - 8 wins
10. North - 8 wins
11. Adelaide - 7 wins
12. Port - 7 wins

All of a sudden we are effectively 3 games in front of 4th placed Geelong (because of percentage), 3 games and a small amount of percentage in front of Hawthorn and 4 games in front of Richmond, GWS and Bulldogs.
With Geelong having GWS, Brisbane, Sydney, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Collingwood and Adelaide I can't see them catching us if this was the actual ladder at the end of Round 16.
Hawthorn have Carlton, Richmond, us, Geelong, Port, Lions and Carlton.
So they may well get to us. But if they do then I don't believe that either Geelong or Richmond will (as Hawthorn play both in the run home). Hence, top 4 will be looking almost certain (if our form doesn't suddenly drop off) if we win our next three games and the above results happen.
Of course, it goes without saying we take things one step at a time."

North Melbourne have a very easy draw , second half of the year ..... they could be surprise Top 4.
This is correct

We have three game lead essentially 4 with percentages

I think North will storm home

That said I reckon we can beat Hawks or swans here if we have a good day ....Melbourne in Darwin won't be easy

I think one week at a time is best thinking

I would take that. Would love a win over the swans even if it meant dropping one

I reckon we play docklands better than we used to

Forwards lie Lecras and Cripps like Etihad

Again it's our midfield v their midfield .....Nic Nat will dominate them

I think it's a 50-50 game to be honest

Let's just get over the Dees first. A shitty grind of a game and an injury or two and we'll all be crying in our beers next weekend praying we can get over the Crows.
Yeah I'm thinking

Let's enjoy the ride people, smell the roses and don't look too far ahead

You would expect Naita to dominate the ruck against Collingwood but they have the class around the ball to shark more than their fair share,

I also worry about Elliot. Potent small forwards are like kryptonite to us.

If we are on we could win by 10 goals but we could lose by 5 or 6 just as easy.

Nah if we stick Wellingham on him as he would know his movements ....we have hurn, Shepard, Wellingham or even Elliot Yeo could play in him

I think play a taller play on Elliot like Essendon used to play fletcher on PHIL matera

Etihad games are like basketball games ...fast break footy at Etihad is dangerous game I agree

That ground can produce big score swings ...often

This is right on the money. I've been to so many games there just like this.

Collingwood win it out the middle and it's Cloke one on one with Schofield we're gonna find it hard.
Zones don't work so well there. It's one kick out the middle, set shot on goal.

McGovern loose in front of Cloke is the 4 points right there. The rest will take care of itself.

I back Nic to won the ruck ...and get the ball going our way

But you need to defend well through the middle part of the ground there ...you can't miss tackles

We have steadily improved our Etihad play

i think we will go 4 and 0 with a lose to the swans, so think we could get up over Hawthorn as Simmo knows everything about them.
