Next Skipper

With the distinct lack of leadership last night, there has been a lot of talk about who the next captain of the North Melbourne Football Club should be. I'm sure Boomer will probably retain the job next year should he want to, but beyond next year who is the man for the job??

I really don't know.

Swallow is a media darling, Ziebell is a lead by example and Drew is flat out inspiration when he plucks marks.

I'm not sure I'd be 100% happy with anyone of them to be honest.

I don't think Swallow would be too young. He'd be the same age as Mitchell when he got it at Hawthorn and older than Cousins and Judd were.

Honestly wouldn't be disappointed with any of the three mentioned, however I would rather my captain be in the mids and always in the action. Swallow with Ziebs a definite future captain.

Swallow looks the goods, seems to have a good head on him too, settled down with a wife already.

I personally would have appointed Spitta at the start of this season. Boomer is not going to do 1 single thing differently whether he is skipper or not, so there is no need to have him as skip. I am sure that he would embrace the concept of Spitz. As an added bonus, it means that we are more chance to get David, than the GCS would be to get Andrew...

Agree with Petrie in 2012 but would give it to Jack in 2014 as he is a very inspirational player.

Jack 2013 he has real mongrel about him .I for one have been spruking spita as the next captain ,but he is not as tough as big jack.And tough is what we need.

Truer words have never been spoken, and for me the answer lies in that simple quote.

Jack is born to lead, but unfortunately he may be slightly too young if Boomer was to give it up this year.

I have total confidence that the club will choose the right person though. Seeing how they interact behind closed doors would be a big indicator.

Also as a side note, the club need to take advantage of the name Ziebell having a 7 in it.

Dish himself said earlier this year that he thinks that given his age it may be better for the club to opt for one of the younger generation, from whom he was confident we had outstanding candidates (naming Spitter and Jack).

Spitter up next IMO, with Jack as VC.

Id like Ziebell as the way he goes about is simply inspiring, however this was his breakout season so perhaps needs to do more. But we all know he's a guy to follow into the trenches.

Swallows i feel is a little more limited in what he can achieve on field, but he does play very well within those limitations. Presents very well off field, more runs on the board and it would be well deserved.

So while i might want Ziebell i think it'll go to Swallow who will certainly make a fine captain. Swallow has been groomed for it to, it would a bit rough if he missed out. Perhaps Jack in 3-4 years time.

I hope Boomer takes a lead from Rawlings and offers to hand over the captaincy to Swallow for 2012 season. It's not helping him or the team holding onto the captaincy.

Boomer should be mentoring Swallow in his final season.

Swallow as captain significantly increases our chances of picking up D Swallow too.
