Before getting the coaching job at Richmond, Hardwick's reputation was as some kind of ultra tough, ass kicking no nonsense coach who among other things didn't get the job at Essendon because he was going to gut the list.

But now you see him on interviews he comes across more like a new age peace and love minister, everyone is wonderful, he 'loves' ben cousins, his speaking style is like a counselor of kindergarten children.

Like meeting a 'supermodel' you've been talking to on the internet only to find shes a 400kg whale, he's nothing like I was expecting. I want to see Richmond do well but this has been their problem forever, the soft nice guy mentality, Richo never played in winning teams but it doesn't matter because he's a nice guy who everyone loves.

After so many years of failure Richmond need the AFL equivalent of Stalin, someone who simply says the aim is to win and anyone incapable of this will be cut down without mercy. This is honestly how I thought Hardwick would be, but the way he comes across I now imagine him in the rooms after the games, holding Tambling's hand and consoling him that football isn't everything. Can't they see this will never work???

Are you serious, basing his coaching ability on the way he speaks to the media?
This is just one of the supidest posts I have read on BF.
He cut 14 players before the season started, I would say that is somebody who cuts players who are incapable of delivering Richmond a premiership.

If you had of driven down Punt Rd a couple of weeks ago you would have seen Hardwick chasing Relton Roberts around the oval.

He's right. There are more important things in life than football :footy: :thumbsu:

Hardwick ftw!

I think you would find behind closed doors he would be a tough bastard. No point having a go at your players through the media then expect them to play they way that you would want them to.

I personally thing Hardwick and Richmond are on the right track they are starting to play some good footy in patches (last weeks game for eg) and have strung some good four quarter performances as well. The only concern is these compromised drafts coming up.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a reputation as one of the toughest managers in the world in the locker room, but once he fronts up to the media he doesn't give his players shit and he doesn't let anyone else either.

Media performance doesn't always reflect how things go behind the scenes.

Media performance >>> coaching performance.
Mark Harvey is (with all due respect) shithouse when a mic is in his face. Whereas Chris Connolly was loved by all in the media. I think we all know what's more important.

Lol, I wish I saw that, would have been classic.:D

Hardwick: Oi Relton, give me that hamburger!
Relton: NO, IT'S MINE!!

Just because he is articulate and measured in the media, don't be fooled.
Hardwick is a tough, uncompromising and intelligent coach. Massive loss for Hawthorn and he will soon whip the Richmond list into line.

Best decision the RFC has made in a decade. :thumbsu:

Ditto.

Like Hardwick's gonna call all his players useless ***** to the media. That would be real smart.

Bay 13 thread, its that ridiculous.

Woosha is the true 'nice guy' of coaches. Never says anything negative about any of his players. It's sickening.

hardwick's been a street better than one dial-a-quote coach out there who has all the tact and substance of a pro wrestler when he gets near a microphone.

LOL, best.post.ever.

Richmond don't need a carsales man, we want a coach.

I don't care about how he talks to the media, I care about if he teaches the boys how to kick the ball, where do kick the ball and how to win a match.

Jack Riewoldt was under Wallace's care from 2007-2008-2009 and in those three years, showed barely anything at all. Danny Daly is hired by Hardwick and co. introduces some innovative way on how to kick straight and now the kid is a gun, kicking goals left, right and centre.

That's whay a coach is paid to do! Make existing players better, bring in good players and develop them.

Terry Wallace would have been fantastic if you handed him a ready made list, the guy just had no idea how to develop it.

So yeah, The Rock was a tooth fairy, doesn't mean he still could not kick our ass :P

So Hardwick can do whatever he likes, aslong as he is improving the list and getting us competitive again.

Barely anything at all? He showed plenty, especially considering he was 18/19/20 for those years. It was pretty obvious that he was going to be a good player. Not really the best example.
