So are we hoping no one bids on him early? What's the best case scenario?

Best case scenario no-one bids on him at all, we use our picks as live selections and take Daicos with our last available pick.

But that’s totally unrealistic!

We’d obviously take Daicos second last and Dib last…

Best we can hope for is NM bids on Darcy first and Daicos second. Can't see a bid coming any later though.

I wonder how much clubs take into accounts preference of the players. I know Adelaide mentioned integrity of the draft last year, but if Horne says to Norf, “I want to be the number 1 pick” it’ll be an interesting discussion around the table

Personally, If im Norf I don’t care, but that’s probably why I do what I do, and they do what they do.

Can you imagine how sh*t that'd make Horne feel? Lol

If he’s got even half a brain it would reassure him that he was going to a professionally run club. The coach would just have to say “the draft order was a reflection of getting the best outcome for the club in a competitive league, regardless we really rate your ability and it’s time to show us what you can do.”

These are teenage footballers we're talking about...

Granted, but we shouldn’t make assumptions without declaring them first.

We did deals with the clubs that have the 2 top picks, I'm sure our professional team extracted a commitment from them in lieu of fair compensation.

Sure Jan.gif

Expectations are low for the team next year. It’s in our long term interests right try and finish low and nab the first key forward from the draft.

Therefore we should be treating Nick Daicos like the Lakers did with Kobe Bryant in year one. Don’t flog him.

Bullshit it's in the club's long term interest to build credibility with the playing group, the larger AFL player community and with our corporate partners and their contemporaries.
You don't do that by dogging it.

Some of you simply don't get it - it's really very simple.

As a club we have practically zero credibility at present and we won't attract professional, well credentialed people with our reputation in tatters the way it is.

First that AGM needs to happen and the board get settled as soon as possible.

Second the playing group need to be assured of our commitment to them and the corresponding commitment the club expects in return.

Third we need to bring it every game, every quarter even every play to show that this club is fair dinkum about the game and giving both our corporate partners and the supporters the value they expect and deserve.

Finally we need to stop looking for short cuts and make sound business and recruitment decisions based on facts that apply over the long term.

It's time to stop pssing around and get serious about rebuilding the club and tanking is the worst possible thought.

Fair call. We will be horrible regardless

No ones suggested tanking. Not in the sense you guys are taking it anyway.

Just letting nature take its course and not rushing the rebuild or half cocking it by going too hard at mid ranged or role playing senior talent in a bid to get a few more wins.

Spot on, some people are moronic in how they see it though.

Basically the last flag we won was built off the draft both low end picks and nailing late and rookie picks then once it matured we traded in to fill gaps (jolly and Ball).

We got people trying to rush right to the end of trading in for a team....

I fear Nick Daicos will be to the 2020s what Bucks was to the late 90s and early 2000s and similar to Cripps at Carlton now. The great white hope, but in all honesty, I am rather annoyed he will be walking into the club the way it is, the kid is a genuine star but feel he will spend a fair chunk of his career in a rubbish side.

I think that's pretty undeniable but we have to play like we mean it, playing to lose cheats everyone.
I can't see us getting close for a few years but we need to provide value.

nah just for a couple years. We'll be back sooner rather than later.

He's under astonishing pressure already, and there's an expectation he's going to walk in a star.

What if he doesn't set the world on fire? What if he takes 2-3 years to really find his feet? What if he just generally doesnt cope with everything that comes with such expectations.

Kid is really on a hiding-to-nothing.

100% The expectations on this kid astounds me.

When you're possibly the #1 pick, you are giving yourself that expectation and pressure. Just like Walsh, Rowell etc. Sometimes you make an impact right away. Sometimes you don't whether in Rowell's was unfortunate luck with injury.

Whether or not he is a star right away isn't a concern to me. If its something he builds into his career, thats probably better. Is he ready made? Yes. But he will only get better in time and experience as well.

That’s fairly insulting to the likes of Macrae, Henry, Reef, Poulter and Bianco.

IF the U-19 Champs do go ahead(Highly Unlikely) would we want Nick to play in them?
Doesn't matter what we want or not. You can't deprive a kid of that experience.
