I wouldn’t be surprised if he chooses a different number but would love him to wear it, and keep it.
If Sier is delisted, who gets 36?
A good thought and quite ironic really - current owner super talented but with seemingly no application. Should Nick take it on he could return it to the prominence it enjoyed with Swanny.

Quickly on the number thing I’ve never understood people getting wrapt up in it, but it does make me wonder why we chose to go with the earliest pick from the previous year over the best first year player from the previous year. In both cases you’re providing the same sense of privilege to wear that number and it’s a nice little reward, but the kicker is giving it to the Harry Collier medalist increases the chances of the nostalgic amongst us seeing 35 in the seniors more often…

That would mean though that the recruits would have 3 numbers in 3 years - their first number, number 35, and then whatever they move to after that. I don't like all the number switching already - this would add to it.

Eliminate the number 35 policy, which let's be honest, was just a way to keep the number free for a Daicos kid, and drop the 42 policy as well and get that back into rotation.

And? For me they could have different numbers each week and it wouldn’t matter because it’s literally about identifying them on the broadcast. I find it a little funny myself that adults get invested in this.

Like I said I’m not one that cares, but this tweak would at least allow those that do care see 35 out there more often.

Isn't #42 up to Pants' family?

I agree - particularly the marking - although it'd be half back rather than half forward, I think, if he was decent in the air.
Pendles "retirement" possie should be on the front edge of the center square.
Pin pointing passes inside 50.
He doesn't need to kick the goals himself.

I think he'll play mainly wing in 2023.

I don't care about the numbers either. But I think the big symbolic gesture to honour Presti for declaring himself unfit to play is an odd thing to bow down to.

It was a bizarre decision to award 35 to the first draft pick. It’s a famous number and should be allowed to continue the story. By changing the player every year the story has been diminished.

Would be good to see two Daicos’s on the #35 locker door one day.

Agree. Beams did it the very next year, and we aren't naming numbers in honour of him (even though we lost).

It is clearly a play to hold the number over for a Daicos.

And tell me the club and whole football world doesn't respect and pat players on the back when they play through an injury.

But you've just said that numbers don't mean anything, and then you say that your suggestion would get 35 out there more.

Surely the 35 rotation policy gets put to bed now. It was a manufactured ill thought out “ tradition” that nobody has taken on fully as something we should do. Honouring a good ordinary injury prone lockdown defender for being injured on Grand Final day and putting his hand to say he’s not ready is not the stuff that needs a perpetual honour. No doubt Presti himself being a humble guy probably thinks it’s over the top too.

The President who “invented” this tradition is now gone. With a new Board, new coach, new staff all over the place, and a new Daicos coming on board, it’s time to hand it over to our top pick one last time.

In 2023 it should be left for Nick to wear for the rest of his career , should he wish. If he doesn’t want it then it goes back in the pool for general circulation.
