I know a few people on here selected Dal Santo to start the season.

He has been an elite SC'er for a few years now.

However he seems to be struggling with hard tags.

Scored 70 yesterday and will continue to drop.

I had him pencilled in as an upgrade this week. I could wait a couple more weeks for him to really bottom out.

What are people's thoughts?

Sparts I don't get why you'd want to pick him up though if he is playing so crap!

Wouldn't it make more sense to upgrade to someone who is in form?

Dal Santo like B.Johnson I don't think will get any better or more consistant as the season goes on.

Just my 2c.

The bolded bit is a joke. Now he doesn't look like recapturing his last few years average but he will definently average 110 by the end of the year. The fact that he only had 13 disposals and scored 70 last night shows that he uses it extremly well. Turn that into a 26 disposal game and you have 140. And he played terrible last night from what i can gather and he should bounce back against richmond next week.

As for picking him up he is definently worth whatever his current price is but if his break even is high i would hold off a week or two. If in those few weeks he scores a few more 70s then maybe he won't be an elite this year. Never write off elite SCers unless injury is affecting thier score (Brad Johson).

That was my line of thinking.

I more wanted to get him this week because I have to plan in place to carry out further upgrades over the coming weeks.

The thing is the most he will drop with average games is maybe another 10-20k. Risk/Reward I guess.

The thing is that I have Palmer and Houli playing and they are producing so far.. so I don't really NEED to get Dal Santo this week.

Depending on how Browny goes I might get him this week insted and hold off for Dal Santo the following week.

Would need around 115 points next week to keep his current price. Maybe gamble the extra week?

GRRRRR what is he doing.

Kornes - 88
Dal Santo- 70

Why do my premium midfielders do this too me! :p

Kornes along with Ling is probably the best tagger in the comp. As was evidenced last night he doesn't rely on posessions to get a good score and I can see him playing any worse for the rest of the season.

The bolded bit is a joke.

Why?

I'm a bit with Judd on this one...

Scored over 92 just TWICE so far. Including a shocker against the tagger-less Bulldogs, and a pretty ordinary score against Carlton.

Problem being there is currently no such thing as a 26 possession Dal Santo game, so no good extrapolating present scores.
Last year he had just TWO games under 95!!

I've had him from the start...no point trading him out, but equally no point getting him in, imo.

Compare how he's gone to similar priced players from the start...Ablett, Bartel, B. Harvey...not even in the same race.

But, more importantly, at his current price I'd suggest there are better options as well.

I am considering picking him up.

The arguement that "he is not in form so don't pick him up" may be valid but I think it is a bit besides the point becasue everyone is trying to pick up a "bargain" midfielder or 2 during the season. The only way a bargain can come about is

a. They have an injury in a match, score like an 8, and then you pick them up three matches later.
b. They are out of form for a few matches.

So if choosing players based on option B you essentially have to take a risk on a quality player in the belief they can turn it around.

The main thing concerning my team personlly is I already have Hayes, Goddard and Riewoldt so I am more concered about getting too St Kilda heavy...

Those saying they would not consider trading in Dal Santo, obviously have no idea how to play SC, or even DT for that matter. Im assuming that they are the same people that traded in Ablett this week, based on his last week score

SC & DT are about risks. If your plan is to only upgrade to performing guys, then you are likely to be using 3 trades for the one upgrade.

You should aim to use 2 max trades for an upgrade, or 1 if possible. To do this, it will mean you will have to trade one of your performing players, for a non-performing gun. That is where the risk comes in.

If your not aiming to trade in a guy who is performing badly, then how are you planning to make enough upgrades to be competitive in 10 weeks time.

Well i think saying he will not get better and more consistant is a joke because he is playing about as bad as he ever has so he can't get worse. He is still using the ball about as good as he has in previous years but just is not finding it as much. As much as i hate to say it he seems to score more when the saints play better so hopefully both hit form soon.

No offense...but you're so unbelievably biased it's a bit pointless even commenting...

Put it this way, for the same price I'd much rather have Goodes, Cross, Kane Johnson, Hayes...and even Ladson pending today...

Like I said, I wouldn't be (won't be even!) trading him out, but better inclusions to be had, imo.

I don't think i ever said he is a bargain at his price or a must have. The main thing i was trying to say was that he will improve his average from here and not get worse and the fact he is in bad form. I would take most of those players over him you mentioned as well if i was looking for a mid around that price.

FYI Dal was playing injured this week. He hurt his knee in the final stages of the match against Essendon last week. Should take him until after the break to recover fully. So I expect his price to drop.

He has had a slow start to the year but I would expect him to come good.

Speaking of good, get Goodes. Scored 153 against Nth and didn't play his best. Was tagged heavily all game. Will pull some massive scores as the season progresses.

The 129 he scored in round 5 came even though he spent a fair while in the rooms after being injured (and from 26 touches). Was it a shoulder?? Not too many guys in the league could have pulled that off, especially when they are in 'poor' form.

I have him and am not over the moon with his season so far, but the guy is all class. He's still averaging over 100ppg so far (just) and before this round was only 3 points behind Lenny in total. Again, there aren't too many players people would complain about who have a 100 average.

I like to look at it this way: What's the upside versus the downside risk? Barring injury, we are unlikely to see Dal playing averaging much less than he currently is, but he could easily up that average by 20ppg from here.

(I'm not making this thread a pet project of mine I promise!)...

...but some people do make me laugh.

You want him to av. 120?...he'll have to av. 127.5 ppg from here in to do it.

Not a chance in the world.

Look, you're right...100-110 is bloody good...and you're in the same boat as me, we're 'stuck' with him...

...but a) It's frustrating looking at the guys I coul have picked for that price...
...and b) I've already said. :D

imho, there's 2 better options that are cheaper...

(obviously a few more for the extra $)

...but since I couldn't talk you into trading Bowden -> Kennelly then I guess there's no point naming names. :p

If I traded Bowden to Kennely he would have had two good scores (today's one boosted by a points booster pressure last quarter) and a zero from being injured.

I know there are a few options.. but yeh. Dal Santo is a gun.
