Re: Nick Lower to GWS

Glad to see Lower doing well at Freo.

The only thing that pisses me off is that Choco is still probably oblivious to what he ****ed up for Port with this guy.

We have become the new Fremantle of the AFL, whilst they have gone the opposite way.

Re: Nick Lower to GWS

Yep. Kind of like Salter never played forward for us, or Ebert never played in the middle. They tear up the SANFL in their real positions, but we insist on playing them out of position in the AFL for some unknown reason. Lower has shown us up in his real position, and if Salter goes elsewhere he'll probably do the same. We'll never know how Ebert would've gone if we'd developed him as a midfielder instead of the talented but structure killing forward he is now.

Also, we drafted Harding as a midfielder. Who would you rather have in your midfield, Harding or Lower? Choco would rather have had Harding.

On Ebert in the midfield. The SANFL is a whole different ballgame. Remember Nathan Steinbourner. racked up 35 posessions for CD every week. Got to the AFL and was hopeless. I'm sure Ebo is lacking fitness to run in the midfield. They do have intensive fitness testing, and surely if he was fit enough. He would be in the midfield.

Re: Nick Lower to GWS

People get a little twitchy when ex-players are praised (e.g. Farmer, Lower), but I thought he played a very decent game yesterday. Kind of played a form of the Matt Thomas game, in that his tackling was first rate. I was also really impressed by his assuredness of handball under pressure in defence. He released the ball very quickly and accurately. His foot skills were also a fair bit better than I had seen.

At the end of the day, the comments that he probably wouldn't add much to our group now, are not unreasonable. But he's clearly more deserving of being on an AFL list than a couple of others we have. He's also well suited to a team full of very talented, hard working young players like Freo (did their kids play well - Suban, DeBoer, Fyfe (what a gun), Ballantyne, Hill etc). He provides them with that physical protective role and complements their creativity really well.

Good luck to him. We need our talented young kids now to put some games together and Matt Thomas will be very important in helping their transition into senior AFL company.

Re: Nick Lower to GWS

Thought he was pretty ordinary except for that. Made a lot of mistakes.

Re: Nick Lower to GWS

He's just a tough as nails, hard working, committed, team player. His disposals don't have massive hurt factor but are generally effective. Has a solid all round game really, and for a rookie pick he is more than we could have hoped. Astute drafting by us and I;d imagine yo guys would welcome him back without hesitation.

Good to read the well wishes for him and i hope you guys can bounce back after the loss this week :thumbsu:

Nick Lower

I was quite surprised to se Nick Lower playing for Fremantle last night and he did ok too.
I didn't even know he was there as I thought we delisted him a couple of years back.
Did he get picked up in a rookie draft or something?
He had a lot of support on BF but unfortunately he wasn't one of Chocos golden boys.

No he was off my radar too. Good luck to him though, I imagine he is fringe at Freo as well but games like yesterday's won't hurt him.

Re: Nick Lower

Best on ground for us versus Sydney today, if not second to Fyfe. Was marking everything, kicked beautifully, tackled hard and committed his body fully to every contest. Gem. Also milked about 45 seconds of clock in the death by asking the umpire where the mark was, how much time he had left, couldn't hear the ump etc :D. Smart footballer
