Nick Stevens

If Dew was able to play midfield, he would still have at least 40-50 shots at goal, plus with his long kicks, he is able to get the ball to the forwards before the place gets congested.
Not to be, but he still is one of our few match winners.

Heard Max Stevens on MMM talking *a lot* about Nick Stevens after the game last night. He mentioned that Nick had just bought a house in Adelaide, next door to Josh Francou. They spoke to Nick who confirmed this and said he wanted Josh to do his landscaping for him. New house, landscaping - sounds like long term planning to me ... call it wishful thinking but maybe the pen is poised ... ? After watching him burn off 3 taggers last night and following on from his form last week I hope I get a bit of wish fulfillment!

If there is a silver (& black, white & teal) lining to the Francou injury it may well be that Nick will sign on again so that he can play with his mate again and resolve some unfinished busines together, rather than having played his last game with the guy he really looks up to and respects immensly.

Hope that the fact he has bought a house does mean he will be here for the longer term as he has really lifted his game again this year since Josh went down.

Maybe woke up to himself after his year last year and his finish in the club BnF despite being the 2nd highest possesion winner. Sorta like Josh Francous conversion from 2000 to 2001.

When Nick is in form like this Port look a bloody good football team. Hopefully this form continues on.

Got to agree Nick has been awesome the last couple of weeks. Not just getting the ball, but clearly looks like he's providing on field leadership. With Paxman either retiring at the end of this year or at least winding down to bit part player, Nick should be offered Vice-Captaincy along with Tredders next year if he signs on. This is far and away our most pressing recruiting concern.

IMO, a vice-captaincy panel of Tredders, Nick and Josh Carr should be installed for season 2004. Primus will be around, and likely captain, in several years to come... so it must be made clear who we see as future leaders once Matty leaves.

Again Nick Stevens steps up, when Nick fires Port seem to be unbeatable. I thought he might go into the centre and thought it would be a good idea but watching the way he played last night he is better playing on a wing as he loves the space. He seems to always cause Hawthorn headaches and done it once again last night, there is nothing like watching the Power with an in form Nick Stevens.

I have to agree. It is time to set the leadership foundation for the coming years.

Agree.

If Nicks wants to go we have to do everything we can to keep him here. Tredders, Nick and Josh Carr as leaders of the club (behind Primus) would be a step in the right direction.

1st priority - sign up Nick.

First step will be Nick winning the B&F this year. He knows it's his turn. I'm sure he'll do the work.

A midfielder win the Port B&F? Surely not!

Give him the vice captaincy as soon as he fixes that hair-do!

Perhaps he's keeping it so that he can replace the Pax as the vice-capatin with the worst hair-do in the AFL.

Hi everyone, just got back from spending a few weeks in the USA for work and I could get online where I was working... damn contruction sites.

Anyway came back to see that our entire 1st tier player group is struck down by injury but we still manage to push Brisbane and then thumped Top 8 Challenger in Hawthorn.

Reading a few articles and read about how Nick Stevens is in top form and seems to be stepping up now that Francou is out for 12 months.

I also read how his contract is up at the end of this year... is this correct?

If so do you think that his form has increased due to his contract being renegotiated at the end of the year?

I personally think that he is lifting his performance for his contract negotiations but also believe that now that Francou has gone down he is stepping up in his leadership responsabilities.

Cheers to a great year.

Whatever the reson is i'm not complaining. As long as he signs his new contract by the end of the year i dont care what the reason is for his current good form.

Seems the cows also have some players coming up for the end of their contracts. Wouldn't mind one A McLeod not being resigned.

Thats it. I've had it. I can honestly say, I do not want him at our club anymore. What an absolute scavenger. Hanging around the packs like a vulture, it sickens me. He just refuses to go in for the hardball gets, and on the odd occasions he throws himself in there, he'll either dive over it and/or drag it back in. Punching players in the chest really isnt on, an absolute dog act. I thought he had changed; last year he blew his stack whenever things didnt go his way and I hoped he had forgotten about all that, but I suppose leopards dont change their spots. Goes AWOL in big games, and even if he doesnt he just **** farts around with it. I'll be glad to see the back of him.

You'd be able to get a sh|tload for him...

Collingwood have Buckley's wages out of their cap next season... anything at Victoria Park you want?

Tall defenders and a high pick. Prestigiacomo would go alright, gave Tredders an absolute bath today.

I hope we do trade him while his value is still high. Too many more big games where he goes missing and his value will plummet.

Trade Stevens and get rid of Kingsley have to be the two highest priorities.
Keep Koula and Hall instead of these two.

agreed!

Port... do the right thing and get rid of Dew. He is the biggest waste of money and doesnt do much. He would go well at Richmond come to think of it because of his big frame.

Aw c'mon. You just dont want Nick 'cause I've slammed him. :p Ever since Dewy came back from OP, he's been a little crap. Which is fair enough. Come next year he'll be ready to tear them apart again, so I'd rather keep him.

Dewy is a forward.
Where we get beaten (make that absolutely slaughtered) when we lose is in the midfield. That is where the one on ones hurt.
We only have receivers and taggers.
Please Mark, get rid of some of them, and bring in some accountable ones.
