Great to see all the love for Suban in here. He showed glimpses of good form in the nab challenge, stoked to see that form stating to show now.

Wow.. how bad that ended up.. Looking at the jokes of Failmantle and Freolol, love it. They ended up missing out of O Keefe (they really thought they had him), traded Kennedy for Judd (LOL..) and Fevola left. My oh my..
Quoted from the thread: "Well done Blues... you're building a very very scary team. Warnock is a beauty".

Suban's role is evolving. He seems to be alternating between keeping an opponent key mid accountable (today Jones, last week Jack) and playing a link up role off a high flank to deliver i50.

He is definitely starting in the square at more centre bounces, usually in a negating role, but nowhere near as hard a tag as Crowley.

I don't think he has a direct competitior for his spot for the time being. His role is somewhat similar to Clancee's (who has also been used in a run-with role), but Clanger switches up off a back flank.

Mzungu could challenge him over time with his versatility. I heard Marc Webb on 720 yesterday mention that Tendai copped a hamstring at a really bad time (second NAB Cup match) and is physically behind where the club was hoping he'd be.

According to this astute Demons fan:

Astuate, that i am, and if you guys dont give Suban BOG today you need your head read. That was the worst game ive seen Jones play in 5 years and Suban hurt him the other way to go on top of it as well.

Too good today fellas, not that i expected you not to be but i honestly dont think you got out of third gear all game. That's what pissed me off, i can handle losing (how cant i being a Demons supporter? Derr!!) but we were dead set putrid, easily our worst performance of the year.

My emotions went from hating the umpires up until half time to hating my own players by the final siren for a 2012 Neeld style 'its all too hard, i give up!' 2nd half

Anyway, best of luck for the rest of the year.

Yes, Suban's defensive achievements are frequently overlooked here, because some are desperate to drop someone, anyone to get Crozier in.
As for Jones, it was one of his weaker games, but for a Melbourne fan, you should know he had a much, much worse outing just three weeks ago against GWS. (I'd know, he's in my fantasy team!)

Gotta pay it when earned, good to see Suban torching the critics (me included). Now just string em together.

Seriously think Crowley not playing has had a big effect on many players/careers...

No he didnt, because as i mentioned his direct man hurt him the other way, he was slaughtered both ways today.

Speaking of Jones, what the hell was going on with his head? Did he smash it during the week or something? Thought he had a swimming cap on at one stage.

So this is what it feels like to have a scary good midfield. top to bottom its clicked. Fyfe to Suban all taking their turn, all smashing in, all working for each other. Its probably missing one elite player that other stupidly good midfields have had. Like a Corey or Kerr (Shudder) but Dam its got to be getting close to top 5-10 mids over the last 10 years.

I can remember a day not too long ago when it was scary bad.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/13793583/lyon-promises-to-rebuild/

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has promised a rebuild of the club's battered midfield and put his players on notice.....
He flagged changes to the team's besieged midfield and warned that only players willing to learn and improve would survive...."Our midfield got obliterated again," he said. "We need to build a midfield that competes against class. I thought they took our midfield to the cleaners. We know it is our area of weakness."

Was that the one when Rosa got forty odd possessions? The result fooled everybody and I'm glad it did. Look at them now.

A gun player with real ticker IMO. The guy plays his heart out every time he goes onto the field regardless of how the rest of the team is playing or how the game is going. It would only be fair to cut him some slack for the odd poor game.

Suban the only player currently on the list we picked with those selections.

Happy with that in hindsight. Warnock pi**ed me off the way he left - not sorry to see him go at all and has proven to be a real average player in a crap team. Good riddance etc.

Yep, i still love him, but that was my whole point how often does Jones get killed both ways like that? Answer: Never. Hence wht Suban was clearly BOG yesterday

With respect, when did shuey get inside ball. Was it the winter olympics athletes ball?
Hey I'm not a petty person and I'm more than willing to admit when I'm wrong so here goes. Suban was immense yesterday. Hat off to him. I've never hated Suban, far from, I've just been disappointed that he's never kicked on with what I thought were all the ingredients to be a very good footballer. We'll see if he can keep it up because he's strung a couple of good games together before and then fallen off a cliff but watching the oppositions best inside player and then trying to get it on the outside seems to really suit him because one of the knocks on him has always been that he doesn't get enough of the footy. By watching a player with better positional sense than himself he starts in a good spot and he can work from there. His hunger or effort has never been in question, just whether he made smart decisions. A poster just before said that Muz is still a bit underdone too so he might have got a break at the start of the season and to his credit he's made it his own.

If Suban and Pearce have a blinder in a grand final it means we are going to be ten goals up by three quarter time.

The debate is whether it is their performance that lifts the team to that level or whether the poor football from the opposition allows Suban and Pearce to perform. The flat track bully paradox.

Playing on quickly and moving the ball straight towards goal seemed to unsettle Essendon so Suban could be in for a very high contribution match.

Can someone tell him to not bother with set shot goals as its very painful now!

I watched him closely at stoppages. He laid some nice blocks for Fyfey, which resulted in clean Freo clearances.

Clearly Lyon is happy with how he is playing his role. It would just be nice if he hits the scoreboard more. I personally don't think he does enough from his scoring chances.

But he's a real heart and soul man and the first to fly the flag for a teammate. Everyone brings their own little thing. It's all part of the rich tapestry.

But please just kick straighter, Nick!

I didn't think his game was too bad. He looked bad after dropping that mark and trying to make amends by knocking himself out. From my end of the ground I thought it was a high fend off it happened so fast. Not sure what he was thinking.

But prior to that he was good. Lots of really long kicks to advantage, thought he was gaining us lots of territory and working hard.
