If you can figure just where it is that the 'Western' (west of what??) Bulldogs are, maybe you can make your back to Fremantle and find out what tradition is about.

*yawn*

whatever. . . as a freo member, i feel shame when i see it wheeled out on the ground by the purple army, held aloft, as if to say "check it out!! a giant novelty anchor!!!"

good to have done away with it IMHO.

May have been something to do with the condition of the ground too possibly - it's looking terrible at the moment.

I love the rock and anchor ceremony - it's very Fremantle, but I guess those theatre goers like dart just don't truly understand what it means to be Fremantle - it's your loss dart, you don't know what you're missing out on. :p

I didn't go to the game for reasons beyond my control, but got to say I'm glad they didn't do it, it's a pretty homosexual tradition, I'm usually all for tradition but this is one I'm not fond of.

Probably because of the rain.

The ground look choped up today... not th best it's been.

I for one dont really care either way for the anchor.... It's a little cheesy but it's been with us from day one. Perhaps to tart it up a bit, we could introduce ninja's in purple gi's who could throw candy death stars in the shape of the Dockers insignia to the kiddies in the crowd.

Kids love the anchor!

I haven't loved it as much, since they got rid of that really hot oiled up guy they used to have ;)

subi oval was sprayed for a fungus about 6 weeks ago, that why the centre & goal square has new turf. could be why the big anchor is not wheeled out.

Yeah my kids love the Anchor ceremony.

The last time it didn't appear it was a malfunction. Well, actually they left the ropes at home. probabbly the same thing this time.

And the reason it looks gay is because dressing the women in bibs and braces makes them look ... well, butch, if not outright dykey.

Some mistakes were made in the early days IMO. I'm not a fan of the anchor ceremony, the song or the name dockers. I always refer to us as Fremantle or Freo.

Speaking of boo boo's, did anyone notice the banner congratulating Jimmie Walker on he's 150th game??

hahahaha, good call.

But remember, with the dockers, its all about the passion - being a respectable football club is irrelevant to them, as long as they have the passion.

They must have been wearing their lucky undies yesterday......

lol.

P.S. May smell a bit funny by then though :o

Um, the Western Suburbs of Melbourne maybe.

Footscray is a suburb mainly filled with immigrants, ie not exactly footy fans. So they changed the name of the club to embrace a bigger area than encompasses Werribee Yarraville Williamstown Altona Maribinong etc etc.

Way to miss the point completely. Our traditions may seem a little weird or perhaps a little odd to outsiders (and to a lot of our own supporters too, going by this thread), but they are OUR traditions. We like to hang onto our identity, not sell it out to try and appeal to a wider audience. Love us or hate us, we are who we are, and we shouldn't have to change for anyone, particularly a 'member' who doesn't even support our team.
