He thought bluegal and bexta were players? ;)

Diplomacy will stop me making suggestions and guessing who he thought they were.

Saddo's a spud ...

Ah well I am sure JR is relieved he isn't the worst player out on the field on sunday, but i have to admit, I want to see the return of BOW WOW :D :D

Saddo is there for Petrie, and u blokes who keep bagging Russel should back up ur statements and not just bag him because other dic#heads do. Have we got a better run frim hind tackler or someone with hands as quick as his????? Two fundamentals in the modern game, his tackling is great and his lead up and then handball opening up the play is just as good, 2 fundamentals in todays game add that with pace and you have someone who will be in the 22 for a long time. The MC are spot on with this bloke, leave him in and he will be like a good red and get better with age.

GO BLUES!!

Agree, Russel will just get better with age and experience. He is a good size to be playing. Hopefully Saddo has a good game without to many goals kicked on him.

Still pissed Saddo is in the team, in a game that we flooged the opposition Saddo still had at least 3 kicked kicked on him (Westhoff 1 and Damon White 2). l would prefer to see Austin given games to prepare him for next year like they did with Bower, Jammo and Grigg late last year.

If Betts is fit he will have to play even if not picked, there must be some doubt over a player picked in the team.

Happy to go in unchanged.
Wouldn't be too concerned with Saddo staying in the team. North have gone in with a pretty small forward line, so he may spend a little time up forward if we can't get a matchup for him.

Think now that Saddo has been retained that it would be far more beneficial to play him up forward. Let him move to the ball as I believe he is too slow to be led to the ball by opposition forwards.

Petrie would be way too big & strong for Saddington, and your comments about Russell are fair in relation to tackling & handball, there is only one MAJOR problem with him is that he just does not get enough of the ball, and he makes fundamental skill errors.

Love how everyone still digs into Saddington, despite the fact our selection committee (who knows more about the players than any of us) have deemed him in our best 22. Give it a rest.

And we get critisised for bagging Jordan Russell, who does SFA every week.

Including Saddo for this game is a massive mistake. No disrespect to the guy, but he is exactly the type of defender we do not need V North. He struggles against talls because his leap isn't great, he's slow at ground level, and his skills are poor. Bower should have been included - much faster, much better on the talls, much better on the smalls, and much better skills. :)

I'm not having a dig at the SC, I presume they think Bower needs another week. Fair enough - we don't have any better talls without Fro, Carlos and Bannister so Saddo it has to be.

It doesn't mean we should sweep his failings under the carpet. If he is put on Petrie - one of the form big men in the comp - it will be a disaster for us. Ratten will try to engineer a matchup on one of the smaller forwards (but hopefully not Thomas or Campbell), and Laidley will try to do the opposite. I hope Ratten wins.

I don't dislike Saddo, I have just long given up on him as a tall defender. Being tall doesn't mean you can play tall. It's why Sydney off-loaded him in the first place.

Sydney never got rid of Saddington becuase he couldnt play, he asked for the move back to Victoria because he was having no luck with injury.

And Bower is listed as an emergency. He is obviously ready to play otherwise he wouldnt have been listed.

I just have a problem with everybody shitcanning a player who played pretty reasonably last week, in his first game back after a long absence, presumably either because he isnt Carlton enough or young enough. Both are stupid reasons. Every other player would be given a grace period (Jordan Russell has been given several years' worth of a grace period), why isnt Saddington?

Saddington was offloaded by sydney because he can't kick.
This is an area a few other Carlton players will have to lift their game if they are to remain on our list. If you can't hit targets with your kicking, you just won't survive.

Well, they definitely didn't get rid of him because he could play. They off-loaded him which is borne out by them paying part of his contract, and choosing an inexperienced rugby convert to fill CHB - the spot we tried to fill with him.

If they really have to (unless they're foxing North like we did last week with Betts/Hampson). Otherwise they'd prefer him another week at VFL level because they don't think he's 100% ready. Any of Carlos, Bower, or Bannister would be ahead of Saddo in the pecking order. Austin must be on the margin at this point.

Anyone can look adequate when your team wins by 60+ points. Do you think North will let us get away with the things Port did? Even then Saddo was hopelessly outpointed in the few aerial contests that came his way.

Because he's almost 29, not 22. Because he can't punch. Because he's not quick. Because he has no upside. Because he's played 160+ games and has displayed all the tricks he'll ever have. Because he has holes in his game that will never go away and are well known by opposition clubs. Because he'll be gone at the end of the year.

None of which is to abuse the guy. He's already played more games than any of us will, not to mention most AFL recruits. It's just that he is not up to the standard required by Carlton if we are going to beat teams like North or, god forbid, Hawthorn if we have to.

I agree Russel could get more of the ball, so could a lot of our team, however he mostly plays a negative forward role, his main aim is to negate the oppositions attacking backmen which he has done, along with tackling, taking a mark and being creative with his hands, hence he is in the team.

Also, Saddo will take Petrie as we all saw Moran, (very similar to Petrie in size and height etc) kill us. Petrie is a much better player than him, without Saddo who would you play on him? Not Bower first game back! All our other tall backs struggled on Moran, Waite possibly could but I prefer him to play the attacking 3rd man up role in defence.

GO BLUES!!

Sydney got rid of him (ifyouwantto look at it from their end) because he had a knee condition they couldnt fix. It was only when he came to a competent club that that issue was sorted out. The idea that Saddington cant play is plain stupid.

Again, rubbish. Even if another week for Bower is ideal, it still stands that he fit enough to play at senior level and that currently, the coaching staff believe Saddington will give us more than Bower. Simple as that.

And Bannister will hopefully be gone at the end of the year. Hack.

Saddington did his job and kept Westhoff to one goal. Cant ask more than that.

All your own opinion.

If he isn't up to the required standard, and will be gone at the end of the year the coaching staff wouldn't have included him in the team, they would have gone with Austin. You totally contradict yourself there.
