I know everyone knew today would be a win to collingwood, but with all the talk from 'Dimma' saying how we will be harder at the ball etc etc listening and watching the game...it doesn't sound and look as though we are playing any better than we did at the same game last year. Jack sounds to be held in well by their defence and our defence is struggling. I hate to say it..but atm, i wouldnt mind saying we'll get done by the same margin as last year. While we've seen development coming though which we all know will give us some excitment in the upcoming years, tired or not...the boys should be giving it a red hot go, and it just doesn't look to be happening. Nahas/Polo/Rance need to go back to coburg in my opinion.
I thought we'd be safe from the wooden spoon after the past couple of weeks...but 2 poor performances continually after the other just highlights maybe the fact that we have run out of steam for the year

:thumbsd:just wait for the happy tankers to come on and say its a good thing so we get pick 4

Stuff the draft pick....i'd rather the boys show who wants to wear the jumper day in day out instead of some of the pansies running around attempting to make half an effort. They are the ones who embarrass the club. I cant see us winning anymore than 1 game for the rest of the reason, 2 at most. I'm not panicking...it's just fustrating to see the boys put on such a terrific effort againest sydney etc for those 5-6 weeks to now drop off. I know its expected of a young team but still, it does no harm to put your head over the ball and attempt to make a contest instead of it being a one sided game.
Those who want us to tank just for the draft picks have to realise...yeah ok sure we'll land ourselves a good young player (hopefully...if the right choice is made!) but by using all the picks on young boys will only hamper with our development and take longer in the process

Once again,we start the negative comments/threads.

We are missing our key midfielder - Cotchin. Also, Jackson and Moore are missing.
Plus, I am wondering whether our young players are tiring and probably due for a rest.

I wasn't expecting us to be consistent this year and end of the year we'll need to look at who will be delisted and recruiting new players. And, that was the plan all along.

Also, we can't compare ourselves with Collingwood they are playing great football at the moment.

So basically you're teeing of against players despite not having seen the game?

FWIW Rance was quite good and his kicking was very decent.

It's exactly the same as what's happened to Melbourne. When your team gets on a run, it's easy to get seduced and think that things have suddenly changed, but change is a gradual process. It takes time to develop real character and hardness in a team - the kind that stops your team from getting destroyed. Today is as much about the level of true belief and confidence as it is about the gulf in talent between the two teams.

Realistically, it may be another year or two before such floggings stop. I think Melbourne are marginally ahead of Richmond in terms of overall development, but both teams will experience more frustration like this before they play finals. At least you have a tough and passionate coach - that goes a long way. I'm not convinced we have the same thing in Bailey. Time will tell.

Meh, Collingwood are one of those teams that feast on the bottom sides but they are a very good and it wouldn't suprise me if they played off in the GF. My only worry is we still make average footballers look like superstars and play front runners into form. e;g Wells, Davis ect:thumbsd:

Over two matches they could only beat Melbourne by a point overall.

Rance was as good as anyone in our side today.. Why would you send him back to Coburg? I'd have thought the extended run he's just had with Coburg has set him up nicely to come back in.

when you miss your best players from the midfield of course you are going to get flogged by the best team in the comp (at the moment).

the defence looks poor because they are always under pressure and the foward line looks non-existant because they barely get a look in.

its going to be a long time before we compete with teams week in week out, the boys needed to work harder today but the truth is alot of the players that played today will not be in our best 22 in 3 years time.

Yeah, from a bloke who didn't like the 'look' of the game through the radio ata. ;)

We are missing our key midfielder - Cotchin. Also, Jackson and Moore are missing.

That's it mate, Foley/Jackson/Cotchin are three of our first five mid rotations, take Swan, Pendlebury and Ball/Didak/Beams out for the Magpies and they'd struggle a bit too.

I'm not excusing the effort, too many were poor today, but when you're down to using blokes like Nahas in the centre square (who really shouldn't have got a game as a forward after recent efforts, but six changes was a lot already), you know how it's going to pan out.

I think we can at least partially attribute our sudden lapse in form to our glut of injuries, which really disrupted our team chemistry. Jackson, Cotchin, Moore, Thursfield, White and even big Griff, all of them were players that were key elements of our resurgence, and replacing them with other guys disrupted and disjointed that sense of togetherness that was beginning to build.

Hence, we were overrun by a superior and far more united Collingwood side.

No need to hit the panic button.

Youngest team on the park in the comp this round. Injuries, suspensions and attrition were always going to stall the momentum.

Hardwick is still sorting the chaff from the wheat. Rance and Morton showed a bit. Browne and Polo don't look up to it. Nahas really disappointed when the pressure was on in the first half. Post looks nowhere near ready. (We desperately need a second marking target in the forward half.)

These sort of losses really damage supporter confidence. It will be interesting to see whether the same is true of the players.

Plenty of difference from last year and while today hurt I also understand and believe we have a much brighter future with this list. Thats something I couldn't have said or believed during wallaces last year

Well good on ya:thumbsu: If they played their best against your mob it would be over at half time;)

Difference is Melbourne who are on par with us actually tried they ran created, tackled, we did none of that today didn't even put in an effort for the most part that's what is upsetting

to the boofheaded or the simpleminded I suppose there is just no convincing huh that the 4 players that came in for Jacko, Cotch, Thursty and Moore were going to go just as good:rolleyes:...sure we probably wouldn't have WON but it would have been some kinda contest...examine the replacements and reconsider the misguided point you were trying to make in the first instance

To the OP, if you really think we are no different to last year than you are simply blind.

Richmond lost not just because we had players missing, we lost because that team that took the park today was the youngest team in the league for the round, you take Cousins out and we would have been even younger.

Boys v Men today, the sky isnt falling.

lol. Yeah I was just yanking your chain there because there was such a clear counter-example to your statement in Melbourne.;) My real opinion on things is my post before that.

You guys just have to realise that you are at the start of a medium to long term process. There are going to be occasional thrashings until real self-belief is developed. When you get on a roll, it is infectious and everybody feels great but unless it is a core belief, it is brittle and can break down very quickly if a side is shocked by a ruthless and superior opponent.

Good news is you have a coach who knows what it takes to win a premiership and seems to have a good footy brain. With some good recruiting I can see Richmond in the 8 in 2-3 years.

how is jack supposed to shine when nobody is delivering it into the 50? jack has done well, very unselfish too.

we're missing a scoop of regular players against the top side, we're on par with what i expected

Disappointing but not surprisingly so. We were light in midfield are still learning and were up against a top 2 team on a roll.

We are 15th in the Comp late in the season.....what do we expect?

so we are missing a couple of players and we fall miles of the pace. what does that tell ya.

since hardwick came it has never been about one yr or this yr most of us have been saying we are likely to go thru similar next yr and even into his 3rd season.
all the collingwood game has done is show how shallow the list is and how little the spread of decent players is. it showed we badly lack quality, depth, not to mention skill size and structure.

pick 3 last yr gained us martin if we had done the right thing we would have had a very good kid like bastinac as well.
if pick 4 can deliver another player of quality like martin and there is a real chance pick 4 has a real good chance of being just as good as martin we need to ensure wqe get that pick.

i have to say im dirty we really should have had picks 3 18 20 last yr,and if we just played kids orchestrated one or two losses this yr we would have had picks 4 and 6.
please dont tell me we are creating a winning culture that wont happen until we have the players capable of actually winning on a regular basis and against the good teams at full strength surely that is the aim.
