That isn't how you spell "Jones".
It'll be a mistake (from a fans point of view - not so much from a financial view)Actually, it's more likely to be going the other way. NBA has experimented with sleeved jerseys for that exact reason and it's expected to be just a matter of time before they have logos on the uniforms.

^ This a million times this. I'd rather a beloved player's name than a company logo. I'm very grateful for Ford for all the money they've poured into my club (and other sponsors) but does not make me a "Ford"/Maccas/Bank/Insurance fan/supporter so much so that I'm elated to be wearing their advertising for free all over my clothing.Look at all you corporate sheep - happy to have your club's jumper desecrated with tacky advertising but kick up a stink about player names.
The NBA would cause a riot if it's introduced. That's the point people are making, advertising among NBA fans is loathed for very good reasons and would not be the easy transition you think it will be. Of course the powers that be in the NBA want it because they wanna fill their pockets with more lucre, that's no surprise.Actually, it's more likely to be going the other way. That is what you call a classic case of bulltish - the AFL is just protecting the Footy Record. If there were names on jerseys then that would put yet another nail in the coffin of the Record.http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-07-18/numbers-up-names-off
"THE AFL will not introduce player surnames as a permanent feature on guernseys, with the lack of space available on jumpers presenting "practical limitations".
Fans reacted positively to a round five trial of the concept, but the League has decided not to change the traditional look of AFL jumpers.
General manager of commercial operations Darren Birch said the concept was good in theory but the trial earlier this season highlighted hurdles in making it work.
"The unique cut of AFL guernseys restricts the size of lettering that can be used and this in turn limits the legibility of the player names for fans at the ground, and to a lesser extent, for those watching on television or via other media channels," Birch said.
"There is only limited space available on the back of match day guernseys for suitably sized names due to player numbers, club acronyms and sponsor logos.
"The trial demonstrated that while the concept of player names might be a good one in theory, in practice it does not work as well as we would like."
I absolutely detest that gridiron piece of shit but that's about the only thing I respect from that sport, top marks for having guernseys as they should be.maybe one day we'll get there, wont hold my breath tho

Either the back sponsor or the name, not both.
Happy with the decision.
But doesn't the NFL have about a billion TV ads during the game with all the breaks in play? I'd take having a sponsors name on the back over that any day.
If the (free) AFL app can't put a nail in the coffin of the Record, then hard to see how putting names on jumpers would. That is what you call a classic case of bulltish - the AFL is just protecting the Footy Record. It's all fine until uniforms start looking like this:

Maybe but the names on guernseys would crash every 5sec'sIf the (free) AFL app can't put a nail in the coffin of the Record, then hard to see how putting names on jumpers would.
Why not?

Sokkah, NFL, NBA etc don't have back sponsors, the number can be moved down and enlarged as can the name.

Many soccer clubs do actually.
Why do people keep bringing up that they are difficult to see on the field? I thought the main purpose of this was to sell more jerseys?
