Can't believe no ones made a thread on this!

Went on the Saints site for the first time in probs 2 years and the first article...
Sam Gilbert commits to St Kilda

Sam Gilbert has put pen to paper on a two year deal that will see him remain with the Club until at least the end of the 2011 season. The 22-year old from Southport, Queensland was selected by St Kilda with pick 33 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft and has played 40 career games since his debut in 2006.

Used predominantly in the backline, Gilbert showcases the versatility, strength and endurance to be a threat at either end of the ground. He played 19 of a possible 25 games last season and started 2009 by collecting 20 possessions, nine marks and laying three tackles in St Kilda’s Round 1 win over Sydney.

Matthew Drain, General Manager of Football & List Management said, “Sam is an important part of our team and we are delighted that he has re-committed to the Club. He is an exciting young player who gives us options with his flexibility, can adapt to playing in different positions and we expect will still develop as a player.”

Great news. Hopefully shuts down and chance of him going to the GC. And by the looks of it from Saturday night, we have a very good player for the next 3 years.

Good news indeed

I've always liked this bloke. Looks too big (meaning tall) for his body at times, but has always showed a terrific endeavour. Have seen him make some mistakes with disposal, but then put in the next effort to go and get it back (and seen him get it back a few times too)

Don't know that this locks him out of GC forever, but it's nice to know that a kid with talent is happy to stay a while longer yet at the Saints

Onya Gilbo :thumbsu:
Really need to find a good nickname for him now

This is really good work from the recruiting department. We never seem to do shit with our high picks and tend to find a few hidden gems like Fisher and now Gilbert.

Tungatalum Vs Pautijimi

I was at their athletics carnival two years ago and they raced each other over the 100. It was close until the 50 metre mark, where James just turned it on and smoked him by 5 -10 metres.

IIRC that Pautjimi guy was close to landing on our rookie list along with Tunga, but he didn't hand in his application in time. Anywho. Up yours GC. Now for Riewoldt..

I'm rapt, I'm a big fan of this kid. Met him last year at the B&F, thoroughly nice bloke too

And from St Kilda to GC17:
