But what message does that send to Bails? "your at least a year out mate, we'll get someone in just in case you don't make it". Replacing someone on maternity leave is quite different to "replacing" someone receiving treatment for cancer. And I do get where you are all coming from, but you've got to stop looking at this as a business decision. They are dealing with a guy here that is fighting for his life. You do anything you can to give him a reason to fight. Not fill his position before they even know the prognosis after treatment.
Jenny your way off base here, of course it's like maternity leave, he won't be able to complete his role for a period of time, no one is suggesting hiring someone full time, because we all know if he can get back he will and everyone will welcome him with open arms. All we are aski is they get someone to COVER him while he is off. We all understand his plight at the moment.

It means, go and get yourself right and we have a job waiting for you in November.

Communication is the key. If they talk to him and explain what they are planing to do, most people have a decent level of understanding in the right circumstances.

As I just pointed out - Noble is covering for him in the box on game day. Paddy Steinfort and Ian Callinan are covering Bailey's roles in development. Nobody seems to have acknowledged that club has already hired someone fulltime in Noble's department (long term Melbourne based recruiter Steve McCrystal) to ensure nothing is missed there. It seems to me the Club has covered all bases, while leaving the options open for Bailey's return.

We can't acknowledge, if we don't know about it, when was this released?

Assuming AFC are confident Bailey will make a recovery & revert to his role, appointing Noble temporarily is the best option in the circumstances. You don't want to bring someone to the club short-term into the coaching box, only for the trade secrets to be taken elsewhere. Also, unlikely to get anyone better temporarily from outside the club.

I would hope AFC backfill some of Noble's list management work - he won't be able to watch games for potential recruits like he does full-time, with someone else, as I think this in the area that will suffer the most.

I'm surprised we haven't utilised VB in helping covering the coaching side of things - he could have been the 2nd set of eyes needed on match day (which they have given to Clarke to cover Bailey assisting Campo) or take over Clarke's role on the bench.

You know, I've worked over 25 years and have seen a few cases of senior people getting a serious illness which necessitated them needing time of work. I have never seen the business I am in head hunt someone from outside the orginisation to replace them short term, always internally.

Not sure why the big deal on this occasion, I'd understand if they had promoted Sandos wife to the role but not somebody with experience

What about if that persons previous experience in the role had seen them moved out of said role because they weren't any good at it?

Sorry Jen I think Bails has a far better grip on reality than you do at times. It wouldn't have been an issue, maybe even a relief that there was no pressure to get back to work.

I have a fine grip on reality thanks. :p

It COULD have been an issue. Besides which, the Crows are in a far better place to know what is going on with Bails than any of us. They have covered all their bases for a short term solution. Anything longer than that will see a different approach.

So is McCrystal only on a 12 month contract given that he is only filling in for Noble?

He's not filling in, he's just ensuring nothing is missed. Noble will still be doing his regular role but on match day will be filling in for Bail's.

Ease up turbo and come down out of that ivory tower of yours.

I think it's absolutely a fair statement to make. So many very quick to crucify the Club for any perceived flaw, but overlook other facts that show that they've gone about this the right way.

I must admit I didn't read that article, but you will have to excuse me for not thinking we had hired someone to replace him, when your arguments was "if we were to hire someone to replace him, it may affect his mental health."

We didn't hire someone to replace him. We hired someone to help Noble out while he's filling in for Bailey.

Your right way.

Not everyone right way.

Saying that, if they have hired someone on a full time basis to replace David Noble as list manager, where will he go when Dean Bailey is ready to return to work?

Perhaps he goes back to Melbourne where he was our recruiter? I have no idea.

And I concede, it may not be the right way for everybody, but geez it's rough they are getting crucified for making these choices.

Look, I've had my say on what I believe is going to happen. This is a good thing and said so.

However, the club is a business and they are supports to win games of football. They are not a charity and they are not a health care facility. They have to make some tough calls and that's what supporters expect.

Asking respectful questions and voicing disappointment at decisions is hardly crucifiction. Sometimes the responses are far more sensationalist and dramatic than the questions themselves.

We saw it with Trent Hentschel with his terrible injury. Could have cut him straight away - unlikely to ever get back to AFL at a high standard. Instead we gave him every chance to succeed. Compassionate.

What message would it send to the rest of our players about loyalty and their security if we cut him?

The pay off for carrying Hentschel was that all the players would see that the club will stand by them, would look after their best interests and the club would benefit down the track from the loyalty this compassion generated.

But dean Bailey was never getting sacked. He would be on leave. He would be welcome at the club anytime he likes.

The only difference is, his replacement has a 9 month contract.

I don't understand the agnst, it appears on FV just to be another bigfooty whinge without actually understanding the dynamics of it.

Wasn't Nobel, only recently sought after by other clubs? what makes people suggest he doesn't have the capabilities to fill the role?

As a talent/list manager. Not as a coach.

Hes done extremely well in his current role hence the interest from elsewhere.
