JHF is the difference this year.

He has been the catalyst for a few late season wins. Now starting to get 25 plus disposals and a couple of goals a game.

Hard to tag out as he is a physical player and can shift momentum.

The opposite to Butters who only plays to a high level when he Port are on top. He is not a momentum changer.

JHF is.

I still think Sydney, GWS and even Hawthorn are better than Port. Mainly because these teams have a better spread of talent.

But can see Port making the GF.
I've said this before, but JHF just plays a loose, unaccountable role at stoppages. He only has one job. Run to the contest at pace, grab the ball and exit. You can't touch him before he gets the ball, and once he gets the ball, he's hard to stop.

(the above is not a criticism of him at all. it's beautiful actually)

It makes a mockery of shape, systems, etc. Have one player who is completely unpredictable and smashes everything up, but also has the elite skills to execute it. Dangerfield was the same. I remember when Campo used to get frustrated at Dangerfield for not keeping shape. Its the wrong coaching of these sorts of players.

Whoever said Wines, Drew were key in this is absolutely correct. They are the shape keepers. JFH is the bull. Butters cleans up. Rozee is the one who has been squeezed out. The better JHF has gotten, the less relevant Rozee has become.

To use Kenny's words, opposition teams really need to "terrorize" him then Butters. It will go a long way towards them wining.

Scott is an experienced succesful coach, he will know how to strategize to beat them, its whether he has the cattle to do the job.

I tend to agree with this, he'll definitely come to AO with a plan.

Whether it works or not and has the cattle to beat them is another story.

Collingwood just had to win one of their 2 draws to play finals.
If Fremantle won their draw they'd have made it too (and knocked Carlton out). I think that kind of illustrates why the draws are so great and should stay.

It's rather poetic that one of the draws was between Collingwood and Fremantle. Neither club did enough to win in regulation. If you play extra time, either Collingwood or Fremantle make it at the expense of a team who did manage to win 13 games in regulation (as much as we'd love to see Carlton miss).

All the "Port always choke in finals" talk scares me more than anything.

People said that about Geelong before 2007.

People said it about Richmond before 2017.

They said it about Port in 2004.

Everyone sucks in finals, until they don't.

Feels like us in 2018-19...on the verge of a complete implosion.
It will be a brave club that embraces a full rebuild and manages to scoop some alleged quality in the upcoming draft

This year feels ominous for port but i still struggle to see how they score a winning total against a top-tier team. If they win it'd be one of the funnier outcomes given the meltdowns about Hinkley and that seems to have some cosmic weight nowadays.

Only potential upside would be casting our long period of failure into extremely sharp relief.

Another fun fact - Port only played the top 7 teams once only. All of their double ups were against teams 8th or below. Now of those 6 teams, they only played Geelong and GWS away. All the other 4 teams at home.

Without Houston and Farrell it will be slightly harder.

And I see that they are already making excuses if they don’t have a sellout - price and the time slot..

Please dont use shape keepers unironically

I am so deeply saddened that I'm laughing.

Here we go, the AFL protection racket to get players out of finals suspensions has begun!

There was no difference between that and Lachie Ash's tackle.

What a joke !!!!!

That's Richmond, but not much bravery there.
True . In one sense their timing is impeccable

I just think clubs like Melbourne or even us

I dont think we have the trade capital to help us. A lot of 2nd rounders early 3rds etc but not much in the way of getting a 2nd go at a top 10

I dont mind the F1 idea but I'm not sure teams will do that this year
