They traded out four years worth of first round picks for JHF, Rata, Soldo and Lukosius

Those four years of missed picks has created a pretty big hole in their list

For context, the picks we offered for JHF turned into Rankine, Dawson and Rachele.

The hilarious bit is Soldo probably won't be there next year.

Yeah he was but it was really the first time a team traded picks given we were going to be able to match any offer Geelong were going to put on the books. They would have had to have traded for him and did, sadly, we capitulated quicker than a French army, even paying top dollar for a guy who was never getting an AFL game

I reckon they traded because if they lodged RFA contract his $1m+ contract would be public knowledge and that would be the end of their famous flat system and nobody earning more than the captain. There’s no other reason to not lodge the RFA contract and force us to match. The only other outcome was us not matching and them keeping their picks. What’s to lose?

it’s amazing how port fans claimed that they’re back with a chance to make finals because they bet GWS and Melbourne.

Carlton beating Port would be a site to watch

I was some what in the camp. Not because I rate them highly but more because there are so many average teams that a spot could of opened up if they got on a bit of role. Thankfully they are too far back now.

I hope you are right and hope Bergman leaves to. I reckon it's a case of buyer beware with Bergman in that he's a B grader made to look better when surrounded by the likes of Butters and JHF.
Rubbish, Bergman is a top end talent, hard to pick a fault on any of his skill set. Would walk into any team in the league.

I know footy
I took that mantra of huge ins and outs with me to the game and it clearly worked a treat. 👍🏻 Port's depth is substandard.

My take from live-viewing the game

Port

The big three...

Butters isn't as damaging as he should be for the amount of ball he gets. Too much show pony not enough real substance. Some 30 touches for not enough impact.

Rozee in his 'new' role is an unaccountable stats padder. Like Butters, also not as damaging as he should be for the amount of ball he gets.

JHF had an off game by his standards but is a beast lb for lb (only oldies will understand what lb is) his strength reminds me of younger Dangerfield only he's more skilled than danger. Must've had an off day because I only noticed him bullocking in the packs, not for his usual breakaway bursts. Loved his get-ball-kick-goal in the goal square 'right in front of me'. A no nonsense dynamo when he's up and going.

The rest ...
Hot garbage. Port's list is shit. Depth is nonexistent. Rioli's eaten too many pies. There are too many no-names who wouldn't get a game in most other AFL teams... and it's delicious!

Swans

The lizard, Heeney, Grundy(BOG for mine) turned up every time when needed. Way too good for anything Port had.

Armarty did this on purpose just to troll us Crows. Bastard!

I don't know what the pressure acts stats say but it felt like Sydney were manic. Always seem to outnumber and out grapple Port.

Reading the comments in here about it being a terrible game was puzzling because it looked ok to me. Fast as. Some huge body clashes. Some of Swans' kicking and marking was fantastic.

Understatement- structure is so important. Both Amarty and Papley back, weren't at their best but made Sydney a way better side by just being there.

Will go again to the next Port home game. Port Carlton LOL. As someone said on here it's a win win when either loses.🤣

If they lose butters and bergman and don' get NWM, they could fall off a cliff as a club. No star players, a long and painful rebuild right when Tasmania are coming in and a supporter base that exits stage left in the middle of games. They may fall into irrelevance for a long time to come...thats the hope anyway

Dont write them-off too quick - they do have quite a few probably/potentially elite talents coming through via father/sons, nga and particularly their faux indigenous player

They'll need them.

Even with Butters and Bergman their list is in awful shape. They've gone through a period like we did where they've picked poorly in the draft and havent got much to show for it

Port Power will need to finish another few years at the bottom and then nail these early picks otherwise they will be in big trouble with Tasmania entering the AFL, there's no room to stuff up like their previous 1st rounders in Jones and Sinn who don't look like decent 1st rounders selections. They really stuffed up the Lukosius trade as this could be pick 4, if Cochrane end up a top 2 next year and they have access to him cheaply with draft points then it will make up for them not having access to pick 4 this year. It was looking bad last year as well before they got on a run late in the season.
