Kochie ruled that out for reasons that didn't really make sense but translated means they dont want to in showdown week

Well there are reports this morning the AFL are having another look into it.

Power looking at missing finals, no first rounder to show for it. HUGE mess with the Ken/Carr situation. Loss of their major sponsor on the eve of the season. Butters' management is meeting with Vic clubs.

They and the AFL wanted to sweep this Rioli thing under the carpet. Remember the tarps are never that far away.

AFL House is now embarrassed, Willie is stuffed.

I don’t think they can go too hard if the recent one wasn’t even worthy of an official reprimand. The other 2 were in-game, so slightly different, but still contribute to pattern. Reckon he cops a fine. Did we have some sanctions a few years ago for in game sledges? Been ages.

This is a big distraction Port don’t need leading into the Showdown and it can’t be used as one of those us against them motivating factors because they aren’t happy with his behaviour.
They are dumb though

Still can use it as motivation even though logic says they can't

Willie Rioli is extremely mouthy for an average small forward who is almost entirely reliant on others giving him scoring opportunities, as opposed to generating them from his own efforts...

We did it with Tex. You support your players.
Different scenario.

Tex and our club owned the wrong. Admitted it.

Tex did the work to earn back the trust of his team mates.
That situation was probably the best outcome. A staff member brave enough to call out a wrong. The club and Tex took ownership, copped his whack

Compared to Kochie excusing Willie for bad behaviour as a result of copping abuse himself and its all good.

Jon Ralph said on Midweek Tackle words to effect of the AFL have been supporting Rioli and Port through “complex matters” and basically didn’t want to add to it via a suspension

That’s before tonight’s revelations so we’ll see what happens tomorrow. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is ruled out of the Showdown…

The same act should have the same outcome, no matter who is the perpetrator or what other complex issues exist. Consistency and a clear message about threats of violence. Pathetic from the AFL.

Shuestar13 just sitting back and watching this all unfold, Eagles fans well aware of this blokes 'morals'

Yes 😔 Very grateful to him for his efforts in 2018… but yes, I (amongst) thousands of other Eagles supporters defended him in the initial stages of the drug ban in that it wasn’t malicious as such, just the actions of a naive, simple minded fellow even though it arguably cost us a final and the premiership defence.

When he got caught with drugs during the ban was a huge red flag, but still we defended him. Then obviously his departure, it was a blindside - we wrongly expected him to stay out of a sense of loyalty to the club that stood by him. A rough reminder of the modern AFL world - was well within his rights to move on but it stung.

Since we have heard on our board from people with connections, the playing group had tired of him and his drama - the club was having to deploy resources just to babysit him and keep him functioning normally.

A very toxic and disruptive individual and it is a relief he is no longer our problem (we have enough problems of our own now as it is!).

A professional club would have sanctioned him - he should not be playing this weekend. As we well know, Port Adelaide is not a professional club. But it appears that the AFL may take the decision out of their hands! Kochie’s comments this morning - my goodness 🤦‍♂️

The AFL now scrambling to fix their week response earlier in the week.

I will be shocked if he plays this week. Especially given the intensity of a showdown. Either an AFL suspension or a club led week away.

The club won’t be standing him down, unless he pulls the pin himself. And probably too late in the week for the AFL to conduct 2 other investigations, get Willie’s side of the story and suspend him. Most likely they’ll negotiate a fine or do a proper job and hand down something next week.

That said, investigations that I’ve been involved with where a claim is made that, “this is the 5th time they’ve done this” tend to go nowhere because nobody reported the first 4 events, so they weren’t investigated and have little bearing.

The post I was replying to was more about fans giving support to their player after the player has done something wrong.

Willie Rioli is just an angry fat little drug cheat.

Wider issues aside, this is great for us. Big distraction and circus for port. We aren't saying any silly things in the media about teeth or drumming up the hatred. If Willie plays, it's a circus, if he doesn't, a dangerous best 22 small forward is omitted from our opposition.

Crows by 70+. Giddy up
