We would need to get a new coach coach a new forward coach to find out for sure but unfortunately by the time that actually happens Dixon will likely be over the hill.
Hell, Rozee will be over the hill by then!

I think it's hard to judge Dixon against top 4 teams.

His record is ordinary but so is Ports record generally against the top 4.

It's a big of chicken or egg.

Is Port bad against the top 4 because Duxon goes missing?

Or is Dixon bad against the top 4 because our brain dead forward 50 entries have been shown not to work against the best time and time again?

Or a bit of both?

Yeah I agree.

Big forward with bung ankle, tough to really come back from....

I don't mind Dixon, he plays the game in a good spirit. Just think he struggles a bit with Footy IQ. Coaching, or just him? Hard to say. Todd Marshall is also struggling to stay in games, so yeah probably coaching.

Mitch Georgiades is still playing a raw game, so hard to guage it with him.

Sure, if moneyball doesn’t mean what it used to

It always used to be the opposite of worrying about meaningless counting stats.

But if that’s changed? ;)
It means utilising evidence based and measurable data to recognise players that are undervalued, because they don't measure up to the subjective measures of scouts (or the out of date data scouts used).

I guess you could argue the out of date data are meaningless counting stats, but my memory of the book is that the scouts were overvaluing things like bat speed and contact, as compared to on base percentage, say.

They rated look and feel too high, as compared to unsightly players who still managed to get on base.

It's been a while though - and nothing is more boring than someone who refers to Moneyball, so I apologize for that.

It’s about cognitive bias, and trying to answer the question about why really smart people make so many bad decisions

They don’t lack incentives, knowledge, smarts, and yet they make stupid decisions over and over.

Part of it is ego, focusing on the wrong things, even when better information is right under their nose. Part of it is that people massively overestimate their abilities as rational, probabilistic agents.

Prospect theory underpins moneyball, and was the principle work that led to the first (and only time ever) where 2 psychologists won the Nobel prize for economics despite not being economists!

I guess this year he'll be Nick Off Field.

Sorry.
That should cheer him up!

Poor guy :(

There's something that feels especially pointless about doing a bad injury in training. On the battlefield you understand that it's a risk. But in the tune up phase?

Like an F1 driver having a prang on the way to the race

I rather do it pre season than round 18 or a qualifying final

That’s huge. Got to love the Advertisers headline, “Crows legend”, not Melbourne coach
It appears Gooodwin still has his gambling issues .....you would have thought he'd have learnt his lesson

Yep, but it’s not an easy lesson if you’re an addict.

How do Melbourne handle this now? The guys just won a flag. It’s not the distraction they need leading into their premiership defence.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan was alarmed by reports of Simon Goodwin’s behaviour

AFL supremo Gillon McLachlan raised concerns with Melbourne about reports of Simon Goodwin’s behaviour, with one encounter at the Sorrento Hotel stunning the CEO.

AFL supremo Gillon McLachlan described Simon Goodwin’s decision to drink and gamble with players as “crazy” in a crisis meeting about the coach’s behaviour.
McLachlan and league commission chairman Richard Goyder were briefed on allegations that Goodwin had some serious issues during an online meeting on the eve of the club’s 2021 premiership season.

Demons officials had been so concerned about what Goodwin “might get up to in Las Vegas” – on a trip in late 2019 – a chaperone was sent to keep an eye on him, a club doctor-turned-whistleblower claimed.

Leaked emails, board memos and transcripts of meetings reveal several directors, including then-president Glen Bartlett, were so alarmed about allegations regarding Goodwin’s lifestyle and workplace bullying they discussed standing him down
