I fully expect his era on the rule committee to be referred to as 'dark times' in AFL history books in 70 years time.Expect in 5 years to still hear people criticising KB for rule changes.

I like what the AFL has done to the COLA. By taking control of who recieves it they can ensure that the lowest paid players (i.e. the ones who need it most) are the ones who get it and the marquee players like Buddy and Tippett don't benefit from it.
It looks like we have a soft cap on FD spending now too. Over $9.5mil in spending (not including player payments I assume) and clubs will pay 75c in tax for every dollar spent. I don't mind the idea, it allows clubs to spend big on new innovations if they really feel its going to give them a competitive edge but it discourages spending that the shitty clubs can't match.
They might, but 10% of a small contract isn't going to be enough to create massive space in the cap for more star players. If they lowball 10 players they might end up with an extra $200k, which is peanuts compared with the extra $1 million they've enjoyed until now. And in return they may find that their lower paid players are less inclined to stick around and start looking for opportunities interstate.I still think any form of COLA would be exploited, the club would just tell its lower paid players "we will give you 10% less because COLA would top up your salary". Then this would allow them to funnel those savings into Tippet and Buddy like contracts
Hence the point of the COLA in the first place, to help keep people in Sydney who want to return home. They might, but 10% of a small contract isn't going to be enough to create massive space in the cap for more star players. The cost of being entertained in Adelaide is pretty high and not usually included in those calculations. Plane trips to Melbourne for a bit of nightlife don't come cheap. And also apparently the COLA was based off the cost of living difference between melbourne and sydney.. If thats the case you would expect that the teams in Adelaide and SE QLD would have money taken out of their cap as COL is less than melbourne. Pretty sure perths as expensive as Melb to live in
Property in Perth and Melbourne is now more expensive than Sydney. I spend a decent chunk of the year in Melbourne and grew up there and there's no difference in the price of groceries and beer is certainly cheaper in Sydney. COLA is pure BS. Nothing more than a leg up so the Swans will retain their fair weather fans - not that that's news to anybody. And also apparently the COLA was based off the cost of living difference between melbourne and sydney.. How do property rental prices compare?Property in Perth and Melbourne is now more expensive than Sydney. It's possible I ran my mouth off too early as it turns out just today they released the most expensive cities in the world rankings and Sydney was one spot above Melbourne. A month or so ago there was an article announcing that Melbourne had overtaken Sydney for property prices but I'm having trouble finding it. According to these: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=Australia&city=Sydney, http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=Australia&city=Melbourne, rent is more expensive in Sydney. How do property rental prices compare?
Regardless I dont see any other salary cap league in the world that has a COL basis in their cap calculationsIt's possible I ran my mouth off too early as it turns out just today they released the most expensive cities in the world rankings and Sydney was one spot above Melbourne.
