Correct.

Which is in response to all the lawyers running the game paranoid that a former player will sue for injuries sustained while playing.

Which is crap. Nobody forces them to play the game, they choose to play the game.

Clarko in hospital with a bad back. On indefinite leave from coaching.

Suppose he can now get around in those delightful little short shorts he loves so much more often
Jeepers! There seems to be a lot of forces at play to prevent the Hawks from winning back to back flags! I like it!

(nb. I don't like the injuries to good players or Clarko having this health scare, just the idea that the universe is making it as hard for them as possible)

it's no longer a game, it's a profession.

kind of like falling off a ladder at a construction site due to unsafe work practices.

look, i agree with you. the MPR is a farce at the moment. each incident should be access on the intent and LIKELIHOOD of causing injuries, not injuries sustained.

So something like a coat hanger tackle = serve punishment; the jumper punches / slight whack in the guts = repremained / fine

The AFL probably doesn't want a repeat of what is happening in the NFL with former players getting paid millions because they got dementia. They don't need to eradicate knocks that might cause concussion, they just need to be seen to be taking the right steps as part of their due diligence.

Jeez they're screwing it up then. Suspending players for accidental head contact, but letting players off that could potentially break the neck of their opponent going for the ball. Something's not right.

It's also crap because the suspensions which are handed out cannot stop the collisions. What we've seen this year is that they are not a deterrent because there an inevitability about collisions.

The NFL is not getting sued because it is a contact sport. It is getting sued because of the management of concussions.

I'm asking you because you're on the opposite end of the scale in terms of the MRP; if Hurley had've come out of the Sydney game with a concussion, do you think Hannerbery would've gotten weeks?

Nope. In Hannerbery's case he didn't bump, so like spoiling, Hurley's jaw could have been broken and Hannerbery would have been fine. He pretty clearly contested the ball in a reasonable manner. So there's nothing he can be suspended for. It should have been a free, and that's that. Now, if Picken walked away with a broken nose, he obviously would have been suspended, because you can be suspended for elbowing. The new head clash rule is the only thing (off the top of my head) that could fall under the "oh he's only been suspended because the other guy got hurt!!" thing

If Hurley fractured a vertebrae, I'd wager the nature of the contest would have been different, so.

would it though? It only takes a bump of that sort of force to land in the wrong spot at the wrong time. At the very least i'd say that he would have been guaranteed weeks if contact was with the hip bone and not the ribs, as it would have likely been a concussion

Straight swap for Carlisle, both kinda suck at their current positions. :)
I can't think of a player on our list I wouldn't straight swap for him.

I'd like to keep our captain, that's one to start ;)

I can't see too many clubs being able to afford him, at least not in premiership contention. The clubs that could afford him might not have something that they're prepared to part with to satisfy GWS.

I would give up Jobe the player, but not the captain/spiritual leader etc...

Losing Jobe would rip the heart out of the place.

Would be arguably the biggest FU to the AFL if one Jeremy Cameron landed on the Napier street entrance Tullamarine entrance
Thankfully Vlad will be gone by then...

We'd have to trade out two quality senior players at least to secure him, there's probably at least 800k a year to start with, and I believe the salary cap increases over the next few years anyway.

So I reckon we could do it.
Carlisle and Melksham/Zaka is best case scenario IMO
