But they'll be in the south? In all seriousness, what new teams will there be?
Mate I seriously doubt the fact the team is called North Melbourne would hold them back. Essendon aren't based in Essendon anymore, St Kilda in St Kilda etc etc.

I have no idea how they would go but the AFL want one team down there and they made it pretty obvious who they want it to be.

North, if they keep going down their current path, will end up playing 7/8 home games down there. What's the next step?

I'd love to see Tassie get a team, it's ridiculous that in a so called national competition, you don't have one.

We all know what it's really about; Tassie isn't growing rapidly population wise. Everything else is a smoke screen.

But even that is a smoke screen, surely its about good stadium deals and tv audiences and we would have both. A sustainable team which will guarantee 25,000 attendance weekly but most importantly there will be either more games for tv or more byes for the player association. Surely, whether the population is growing or not has no bearing whether there will be more people watching at the stadium, potentially on the tv, but blockbusters the four free-to-air tv slots are few and far between anyway

Neither of your stadiums hold 25k though?

It should be about that, but the word 'growth' is golden to the AFL above else because their view is they need to think longer term.

It's not right or fair, but I suspect that's what their thinking is about.

Heh. If I were competing in taekwondo I'd rather face a man than a woman. There are sports where men are superior to women, naturally. But there are also sports that women are superior to men as well.
Absolutely. I've fought some astoundingly good female fighters (well, sparred with); their naturally better stretch means that they can roundhouse kick you as easy as blinking ... And a kick in the bollocks is far worse than a kick in the vijay singh (apparently)

Well that can be their view all they like, but when another code (A-League) grows into our market, and sees the attendances then we will see what the AFL will do then

If there is a whiff of A-League making a serious play for a Tassie team, they will be far more likely to rush a team through.

I think the question remains, in that case, more over whether it will be an organic Tasmanian team or a relocated one, say North, though.

I hope it's the former.

Again, I would not support 'North Melbourne' but would swap to Tassie in a heartbeat. I know I said we are dumb but not that dumb. Also what an AFL team would do for the economy would be the best thing that has happened here since MONA

I'm in full agreement, don't worry.

I'm just very cynical about the AFL, basically.

Somewhat ironically, it's dialect slang for "campaigner".
I knew that courtesy of a Greek friend of mine.

And I know about that wall. Seen it with my own eyes.

Anyway...
