I know Dodoro is much loved of late and he's managed our list beautifully during the saga, but what the **** was he doing offering Hooker and pick 19 for Caddy. When Danger and Selwood have 33 and 29 possies and are desperate for support, Caddy has just 10 disposals and zero impact. Spud.
bullet = dodged

Chris Scott is out of contract next season.

He's lucky that he has a flag to his name other wise the Cats would flick him.

yeh they only made a prelim!!11 he's only got a 72% winning percentage percentage!

I am conflicted as I like a premier to look the part.

Having been at the Geelong v Hawthorn final I was already getting concerned because they hardly looked to be playing at a higher standard than we did in our last month this year. I wanted Geelong to win because I thought they looked the part but when you see them live they have holes everywhere including players like Bartel and Enright (who get done for pace, badly regardless of whether they are champions and all Australians). Ruggles and Bews are hardly AFL standard defenders. Cowan is a horrible player - it's like watching Kommer, the similarities are unnerving.

GWS is the only team without a deficiency but I have no interest in seeing them win flags playing with a different set of rules to everyone else. Sheedy's heart is in the right place but he seems to genuinely believe that subjecting the AFL to GWS flags will grow the game and make GWS sustainable so I don't really care what he thinks.

The Dogs struggle to score and have and have basically no spine.

Sydney's bottom 6 is really young, even if it looks like they are quality players, but they're the team I want to win the flag. I get that COLA annoys people but it's not the reason that they have been such a successful club in the last 10 years.

Their recruiting and development has been outstanding. Kennedy, Jack, Parker and Hannebery were not handouts. Naismith, Alir, Papley, Rampe, Jones, Lloyd, Smith, and Hewett were not exactly cherry picked first round selections. It annoys me that they could get guaranteed access to Mills and Heeney but I can live with that, given the alternative, as I can live with Tippett and Franklin because we should not be pretending that Sydney did not become a destination club and that they would not have been able to recruit quality players without COLA.

Already great team bloods youth through their academies, is what he's saying. Not sure I'd say it isn't right. It's needed for the game's health in NSW.

Personally them having an academy is bs if they want good young talent they finish near the bottom of the ladder like every one else.

Didn't they only have one academy player playing last night?

COLA and the academies are a reasonable contributing factor. Look at the difference Franklin and Heaney made last night. They also absolutely nailed some regular picks and well done to them. I believe they did it without the pressure other clubs have because of the other advantages they receive elsewhere, meaning they're less likely to take risks and bugger it up.

A scenario to illustrate is a team with lots of list holes. Those teams can fall into the trap of recruiting hybrid-position players because they think it will hedge their bets, like a half-back/midfielder or a ruckman/forward instead of a dedicated role-type player.

The risk is the player isn't a standout in either and never develops into the Goodes or Cornes the club wants them to be, sliding into mediocrity. Sydney don't have to do this because their list holes are smaller as a result of other concessions. They can just pick the best pure mid or pure flanker available and put 100% into developing the player in that spot.

You could counter and state that all strong clubs enjoy this benefit while at the top, but the difference is other clubs earn it legitimately.

If you're trying to say, overall, that they would've been just as good in the last 6 years or even close to nearly as good, I would strongly disagree with you. IMO those concessions are the difference between a good team and a great team.
