What a wasted debate. It's something that's just....done. Like the team song. I've never once bothered wasting my brain cells over the credentials of not having it. And now that I actually have wasted brain cells contemplating it, I'm angry I did so!

The Footy Show is ****ing terrible. Calls to get rid of the banner for no reason are probably just attempts to create conversation and remain relevant.

How about a call to get rid of the footy show.
Or a call to get rid of FTA TV. Coz that's pretty much most FTA programming these days. Either they pinch it from the States or it's C-grade drivel. Or it's live sport (and I'm not ruling out live sport being C-grade drivel at least 50% of the time either).

I only watch sport on FTA. I can't even remember the last time I regularly tuned in to watch anything else.

Same. Or occasionally news (usually by accident).

I'm surprised Foxtel is still around with all these streaming services people have access to now.
Live sport and Game of Thrones. For anything else you'd go elsewhere, I think.

While there's not much in it, and from the sounds of it it was basically someone shouting "pay your staff you dodgy bastard".

If a fan went and pushed another spectator (especially in front of police), they'd be removed from the stadium and possibly have their membership revoked. If you're a celebrity - it's ok?

How ridiculous - a little push wouldn't get you removed from the stadium and have your membership removed. What would probably happen in the crowd would be a little push would likely turn into a fight, then you might be risking your membership.

This is the first I've heard of all this but I just read this http://www.news.com.au/entertainmen...c/news-story/c0014ab435e711c49d2d6ff648ad418b and I can't stop laughing at the "victim" and his accounting of this harrowing tale.

Needs a Senate Committee.

Haven't watched Footy show for years so can't understand all these people calling for its axing, easy,DONT F...... WATCH IT.
I don't F...... watch it. Would still like to see it axed as I can't stand Craig Hutchison and I take childish pleasure in watching him fail

So there are two articles on the AFL website detailing what Port and the Suns are doing in preparation for China. Looks like two pretty different approaches to the same issues – one seems almost laissez faire, while the other is conservative almost to the point of ridiculous (but you can never be too careful, I suppose).

Compare the pair:

Smog:
SUNS said:
Speaking on Sunday, Rodney Eade said he was worried about the 22-hour trip and Shanghai's smoggy weather, but co-captain May said neither was a problem.

...

May said there were no worries about the quality of the air.
Meh.

Port said:
There have been concerns about the air quality in Shanghai, especially with the prospect of a sandstorm set to hit the city later in the week.

"Guys that might have some respiratory issues, they might struggle a little bit more and might need some more asthma medication," Burgess said.

"Unless it's really, really heavy smog, it won't make a massive difference.

"The smog, it is an issue, but it's the same for both teams.

"The sandstorms, let's see if they happen.

"There's a threat, but all in all, it's pretty minor."
Concerns about sandstorms and respiratory issues, risks mitigated.

Food:
SUNS said:
"We might get delayed, we might get bad food one night, all these problems that could happen, but at the end of the day there's nothing we can do about it, the game's going ahead and we're looking forward to embracing it rather than complain about it.
Meh.

Port said:
PORT Adelaide's players have been banned from eating outside of their hotel in Shanghai for fear of food poisoning ahead of Sunday's historic game against Gold Coast in China.

"Having been (to China) a few times with the Socceroos, we did have some issues with some of the food," Port's head of high performance, Darren Burgess, said on Tuesday.

"We had a couple players who got some food poisoning and a whole bunch of staff that lost a lot of weight.

"We've made sure all the food is imported from the right areas, and most of it actually comes from Australia.

"We just wanted to make sure this wasn't going to be an issue."

...

"I've been over there probably four times to source hotels and to look at the training venues and to source the food," Burgess said.

"The preparation has been a long time coming."

...

The club has also worked closely with its airline partner Cathay Pacific on its dietary requirements during the flight.
Imports food from Australia, bans players from eating outside of the hotel, organises food on flights.

Flights:
SUNS said:
The Suns leave their Metricon Stadium home on Wednesday morning at 5am on a bus bound for Brisbane Airport to begin their journey.

Four players – including ruckman Jarrod Witts and key forward Peter Wright – will be in business class, while the rest of the players and staff will be in economy.

Gold Coast has also organised for its players to spend time in a swimming pool at Singapore Airport during a stopover to help mitigate the effects of the travel.
Four players get business class (the tall ones?), the rest are in economy. Leaving early on Wednesday. But they get a swimming pool during their stopover.

Port said:
The first group of Power players will depart Adelaide on Tuesday night with stops in Melbourne and Hong Kong before arriving in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The group includes captain Travis Boak, Charlie Dixon, Robbie Gray, Hamish Hartlett, Jarman Impey, Tom Jonas, Jasper Pittard, Patrick Ryder and Jackson Trengove.

The remaining 16 players will leave Adelaide on Wednesday morning, flying direct to Hong Kong before joining their teammates in Shanghai on Wednesday night.

The first group contains taller players and those who have had slight injury concerns this season to give them more time in China.

All of the Power's players will be in premium economy to give them increased leg room.

...

Having been involved with the Socceroos and English soccer giants Liverpool during games in China, Burgess believes the commentary around the impact of travel on players has been blown out of proportion.

"It's pretty unusual for the AFL, but it's pretty common for world sport," he said.
Players going in two groups, first group are tall or injured and get two stop overs and arrive Wednesday morning, so they 'have more time in China'. Second group get one stopover and arrive Wednesday night. But they all get premium economy.
